Delta 293 - Winter Festival
The following changes/fixes/additions have been applied to the Live shards on Tuesday, December 20th, 2016.
- Istaria has been plunged into a quick and cold winter! All across the land, green land has been blanketed in a cold sheet of snow.
- Mysterious present-shaped mimics have been spotted popping up everywhere in the world, from the Lesser Aradoth to Harro and the edge of the Eastern Deadlands. Some intuitive Gifted have even managed to take them in as pets.
- Superior Antidote now requires a rating of at least 100 to use (instead of level 114).
- Updated the Gem Golem spawns west/northwest of the Tower of Healing Canyons.
- Primal Alacrity, Primal Health, Gift of Velocity, and Primal Restoration now can be used while costumed.
- You must now properly complete The Hidden Dragon: Recovering Knowledge to be able to pick up The Hidden Dragon: Primal Restoration.
- Lethal Poison is now even more lethal.
- Son of Gigaroth’s Entangled debuff now gives a Deadly Poison instead of a Lethal.
- Gerix now sells a Sandstone Strength Wing Scale.
- Sheep and cows now have properly capitalized names.
- Ancient Barasavian Charm now refers to Magic Defense instead of MagDefense.
- Aura of the Forgotten now allows you to correctly loot the Faded Souls for their Recovered Memories.
- The quest “Memories of the Forgotten (Part 2)” now correctly asks for 12 memories in the quest step instead of 16.
- Rift Spirit Form now properly allows you to damage mobs in the Rift.
- Rift Spirit Form no longer turns you into a sparkly ghost. Instead, you are now a ghostly version of your own character’s design!
- Fixed quest “Farmer Idamon's Chicken Troubles” so that the egg step says “Loot” instead of “Collect”
- “Avenge the Fallen” and “Remnants of the Artifact” and “Pacifying the Angry” quests from the Tower of Healing now all give XP and Coin upon completion and have had various fixes and tweaks.
- Quest “The NRRI needs your help!” is now “The NRDF needs your help!”
- Amulet of Scorpus now properly has 5% chance to trigger the buff Moderate Poison Immunity
- Updated the description and effect of the Pulsing Artifact Fragment tech kit.
- Amulet of Istara tech kit now applies a name modification to the item it is installed into, has a correct description, and applies to the proper statistics/skills.
- Seal of the Clerical Order tech kit is now fixed and given out as part of the “Avenge the Fallen (Part 2)” quest.
- Sshranu has researched his recently discovered potion formula more, and has made a new prototype that he has mailed to all apprentices who have helped him before. (Polymorph Splash Potions have been added, and been given to players who have completed the quest)
- Druid’s Growth will, temporarily, only give Lesser Growth until the issues can be resolved.
- Quest “Trials of the Gifted: Test of Knowledge” no longer refers to Jarl and has an updated timeline.
- Lethal Poison now lasts only 5 minutes and does no recurring damage, but after nearly 5 minutes will kill you if not cured.
- Guild: Amon now has an outgoing portal.
- Corrected the terrain near one of the Guild: Amon plots so that the plot boundaries are no longer on the cliffside.
- Blighted Brambles no longer gives a Lethal Poison, but does damage over time directly.

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
No mention of Sshranu's potions being fixed to allow 2 per batch? Or is this the wrong patch for that?
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
It must've been missed as a patch note but yes, Sshranu's potions are fixed with this delta. :)
I've noted there's no mention of double exp in this Delta either, but I do remember the date being set for the twentieth. There will probably be a separate announcement post made for it.
Please note: The Rift Spirit Form preventing hoard consumption and use of hoard consuming abilities is a known issue that's being worked on.
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
you also need to fix the form given by the hidden dragon as he gives the same spirit form type, and hoard usage is impossible as well. plus that glow is very annoying in that form for the resurrection spell. can't see anything (same as the old rift form)
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
They're both caused by the same issue - I just mentioned the Rift's spirit form because it's the most well known version of the bug. :)
I'll see if I can lessen the glow effect at all so it's not so overbearing.
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
OK, don't know if these are intended or not. No double XP. Boooo Hiss hisss. :p
I am running around as a lvl 77 Reaver and up till today only been able to get quests lvl 80 or below as has always been in past. Today after maintenance I am offered all quests from everyone lvl 1 to lvl 100. Is this intended?
When will double XP be offered? If at all?
Thanks Slimey on Order

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Double EXP is supposed to be up but for some reason it's not functioning. We're looking into it.
The constraints on quests issue is very odd and we're aware of it, but we're still looking into it. We didn't change anything with how quests are constrained to my knowledge.
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Love the presents! Some really nice changes applied here, thank you! :-)
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Double xp seems to be working now. Will that last for the entire festival?
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Minor bug: Malluira, in Bristugo is talking about a pet present I guess? She keeps referring to it, but there's no pet by her.

This is due to a missed file in the patch, I'm unsure whether it can be turned on as we're working on the next delta already but we're looking into it.
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
So is that "until January", meaning January 1st? Or through January?

We have not yet fully settled on an end date, it will either be January 17th or the 24th.

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Seems that the present spawns are much rarer today than yesterday.
Looted over 650 ornaments yesterday, should be able to estimate from that, how many I killed. Nada. Drop rate seems to be about 1 in 750 to 1 in 1000, not sure that's the intended rate.

Drop rate for all presents is around 1%, I have double checked all of them.

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
I got a purple and a blue, the latter after like 10 presents and the former after about 300. RNGesus is your friend or your foe here - another friend of mine already has 4 with 3/5 colors
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Some additional feedback.
The spawns seem to vary from day to day. If I had to guess, I would say it is just the server hitting spawn limits. We've seen in the past, certain areas where say dim wisps will not spawn, or sand crabs, etc.
North half of lesser aradoth, I found only a single blue, south half sound about 7. But that island has pretty heavy variety and quantity of native mobs, so I guess it is really not surprising to see the presents being sparse.
Good spot for red: southeast peninsula in eastern deadlands. Directly northeast of the north end of draak, or east across the water from the fyakki.
Purple weren't too bad in char, and found a decent amount between south gate and selen.
Orange and purple are all mixed together around kirasanct, and north of there and east to old rachival.
Purple and green were mixed a bit just northeast of dalimond.
Still looking for a good blue spawn.
Basically, if you aren't finding any, and the area normally has good quantity spawns of the native populations, try elsewhere.
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Loving all the snowy landscape. Tower of Nature and Aubadrine all snowy, purplish leaves. Looks neat. :)
South Gate to Selen today didn't have many present mimics. So just keep looking, spawns definitely change day to day.
Festival grounds has all tiers, so lower level players should avoid it since the Reds will one shot you. If there spawn is good, can support 2 maybe 3 ppl, if not, just 1 (so if someone is there, just go elsewhere).
Bitter Pickle has orange presents but it's t4. Sanctuary (Floating City area) has t4 mobs but orange presents also. (not a big deal really)
Found a spot in middle of nowhere with like 8 purple presents. Killed them, came back later, nada. So these present mimics might be linked spawns. So kill what you find, move on is best strategy.

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Of all the presents, the blue is the hardest to find. Only ever find 2 to 6 when flying over the entire lesser aradoth region. Genevia, maybe 2 to 4 for the whole island. Need to be more blue spawns. Green haven't been easy to find either.
Why not add blues to spawn on a few of the old starter islands? New Vassarack could add blue spawns. New Brommel add all 5 tiers.

they do in fact spawn in the old islands as well, all aside from skalkaar, spirit isle and memorial isle. (and the copy islands, as there's no easy way to get there for most)

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
I was up near Spire Trail, getting Bright essence (where the Maple treants are) and saw a bunch of green presents mixed in with a bunch of purple.
I also saw a lot of green between Dalimond and Chiconis yesterday
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
I found some blue spawns on new brommel. About 8. So not too bad, but not great either. Could use some more :)
The spawns are really sloppy though. I know they were rushed, but some of those spawns are on the sides of really tall mountains. I know one that I found is only reachable by flight. I was able to get it, but peds would be out of luck on that one. I guess the spawns were just laid out automatically or something? But there does seem to be a large quantity that spawn on walls. Festival Grounds (boo that they took out the crypt there) has half the spawns on the walls, which are kinda tall. Some of those will be out of range from the ground, ped's can't fly. What happens is over time, you get all you can in range, and the respawns build up in the out of range places. :( You definitely will want to do the hunting on an adult/ancient dragon for now, but a bit of tweaking to the spawns wouldn't hurt (if possible). If that isn't possible, then perhaps add a few spawns to areas' where we know the zone is mostly flat, to help avoid the respawn buildup that occurs on really tall walls.
Loving re-exploring all of Istaria to see it snow covered, it came out really beautiful :)
One last suggestion, perhaps add a bit of combat function to the present pets? Maybe +100 frost resistance, +100 Ice skill, or something theme-appropriate, without being too much since they have some capacity. They are really cute, but I am afraid they will be left in the undesirable category when compared to combat pets that grant an ability.
Maybe give them an ability, a tiered "Blizzard" ability, that does ice damage, slows, and -5% chance to hit on incoming ranged melee/spells ? (Originally wanted a new banner tech made that does this, and uses the ice-imbued-orbs, but nothing ever came of that)
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Ive only ran into a few that I couldn't reach with my bow and drag em down so could loot. One the lower tiered ones just have to be careful you get them down on the ground before you kill em.

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
STATUES
wonderful, awsome, artistic ICY STATUES
found them yesterday by accident.
THAT was an additional gnomekindle present for me.
Love them soo much
Thanks a lot for that (frosthide?)!!!
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
The blue presents are much too rare. In one hour I could only find 5 of them (Order Server), I have been searching on Lesser Aradoth, the resorts islands... that's no fun.

Happy Holidays from the Art Team. :p

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Due to the nature of the next patch we won't be able to increase the spawns for the blue presents, however, I've notified my fellow event GMs to promote the population of blue presents whenever they can ;)
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
all bugs aside.. this patch turned out a lot better than I expected. nice content, neatly planned for appearances.. Makes for a little less boredom. Love the new look to the landscape, though it throws me at times, forgetting where I am on the map :)

It's amazing how different everything looks. I've lost count of the times I've been chasing a line of presents... only to look up and see a place I recognizes... then go "how did I end up clear out here?" :)
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
I get lost also in the snow and my hooves and toes are freezing! But such fun! The most blue presents I've seen were on New K
when I was looking for the Winter Festival and got lost.....
Any hint as to where those ice statues are?

Spent 2 or 3 hours chasing presents last night starting in Morning Light with a friend.. only to look up and see a fiery red bridge.. to my map, I ran. Quickly open it to find we were at Fire Island bridge.. *scratches his head feathers*

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
The snow seems to be missing now... but the presents are still there. What's going on?

The changing of the year seemingly broke the file structure we had for the event, it should be all good again, if not, try a full scan. :)
Snow will last, like the full event, till February.
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
It could be that the snow has been repaired for a day but its gone again.
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
and also the mimics has gone.
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
Sorry about that there were just over hunted.
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
I'm really enjoying the snowy world for event. It's a great change! Is there a way though to disable the event music though and just use the regular area based musics?

Thank you, we're looking into this. I'm not sure what caused the snow to break again, but hopefully it'll be up and running again soon!

Yes, but you have to edit a few files and, as the winter progresses, you might have to re-edit them a few times. In this folder:
\Istaria\resources_event\hours_of_frost\winterizin g\definitions
There are a few definition files. Open them and you'll see this line right near the top:
Code:
string regionMusic = "mus_event_gnomekindle"
Change that regionMusic to mus_default or whatever you want. :) The names of the files in this folder match the originals here if you want to compare that line:
\Istaria\resources\definitions\regions
I'm not entirely sure of what they were before it was updated.

Snow is back- and its still amazing- Thank you

Any way to get a mirror image of the dragons? would be nice to be able to use then as say, a set of guardians to your plot at an entrance. if you have 2 facing the entrance, both would be looking at you as you enter. as it is now, one will and the other looks away

Where do you get the forms for the statues?

No forms, you just build them like anything else from the Planner selection.

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
I have a couple of questions. The ice statues, do they just have to be placed during the festival or do they have to be actually built? Can they be torn down and moved later?
Where do the forms for the ice blocks come from?

the Ice statues will remain all-year-round. :) As for the ice blocks, I'm not entirely sure whether those are in yet at this point of time, will give you a heads-up when I do know.

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
I've seen a dragon ice statue on Order, so someone must have them :)

I have the forms for ice block, keystones and bricks. But atm I don't think they are usable. Ice statues are made with sandstone and slate blocks. can be built anytime. can be deconned as well. I have already built 2 dragon statues and 2 fiend at my Augh plot.
The forms for ice brick / blocks / keystones are bought from the Parsinia beginner mason trainer. for now, nothing is requiring them for building purposes

Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
I notice how after todays Maint that Tazoon and the whole desert are now snow covered too. Looks great! Tazoon is really beautiful like that.
Now that t3 revamp is underway, should put trainers etc back in tazoon. It's the capital after all, should be a one stop shop for all trainers (bipeds, craft and adv alike) plus all machines. :)
-
Re: Delta 293 - Winter Festival
You have to land on the ground occasionally ..that makes them spawn faster, slate crest with the elm and the slate and the kenaf nearby spawn quite a few, but you need to walk around not fly over. Lillyjo, Chaos server
