Thread: Istaria Wiki

    Lightbulb Istaria Wiki

    Hi folks,

I have been playing Istaria/Horizons since first release, so I am definitely an "elder" player. Over the years, I have helped, and been helped by, many wonderful people. There are many sources of information outside the game too, such as the wonderful http://horizons.gamersinfo.net and the community site. I used to trawl the forums for all sorts of fantastic hints about levelling and places to visit in-game.

However, over time forum posts "age" and that information is lost. Similarly other websites have come and gone. With the influx of new players, it is often hard for them to find out some of the info we "elder" players treat as second-nature. To that end, I have created a free Wiki site at:

    http://istaria.wikispaces.com/

I have added some limited information so far, just enough to get some basic structure. There is an enormous amount of info I'd like to add, particularly around how best to level classes and what locations are most efficient when crafting, etc. I would like to ask for everyone to help out where possible, either with requests for info, or adding info to the site. Permissions on the site are restricted to members of the wiki space (it's a big, bad world out there, unfortunately) but if you request access, you'll get it

I know there are lots of websites already with information, but a lot of new players don't know about them either! If we get enough content, I'd like to get the site added to the community.istaria.com site too.

    Yours in Istaria,

    Bamf Manfric

someone else already started a wiki, already containing most of the low level quests: http://istaria.wikia.com/

Oh, that's fantastic! Thanks for the URLs, I'll move my (quite limited) content there instead.

I actually thought about doing this about a year ago, and was discouraged from doing it by one of the current developers.

    My, how times have changed.

Why would they discourage something like that? Did they give a reason?

Yes - it certainly makes a massive difference when you have people in charge that actually care about the game I'm still thoroughly enjoying reading the patch notes every week for one thing!

Another update for the Wiki users/editors - I wanted to clarify with Virtrium what their thoughts on a Wiki were so I raised a ticket:

    Submitted to 'Suggestions and Ideas'

    Hello,

I've been updating content on the (unofficial) Istaria Wiki located at http://istaria.wikia.com/. There is a lot of content on the Community Forums RE Lore, quests, etc. Do you know if there is any problems copying this content across to the Wiki? I've asked people where possible, but some don't respond, and there is also a lot of Lore that Amon and the other devs have posted that I would like to move across.

Any "official" word on usage of the forum content?
    and they replied:

    Greetings,

The development team has it on their task list to link the game DB into a wiki - but they've had a lot on their plates. I know they had some sort of grand idea to link the wiki into the game but I don't know their plans. I asked where the wiki was on the priority list and they looked at me like I'm crazy. I think it's safe to say that it will be some time before they get something official released. In the mean time, it doesn't hurt at all to work on a wiki and pull information together.

Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist with.

Thank you for playing Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted.

So... I take that as a "the Dev team creating/supporting a Wiki is waaaaay low on the priority, so feel free to create your own with our blessing"

So, have at it Wiki editors

If anyone would like to help add/update content on the Wiki, feel free to drop by - I've added some content templates to help people write new articles which includes:

    - Quests
    - NPCs
    - Creatures

I'll add some more when time allows (like Locations, Schools, Formulas, Techniques, Items, etc etc etc). I've also been having fun taking a "tour" of Istaria and capturing some happy-snaps of the local fauna. For some reason, they don't like getting their photos taken... must be shy For example, the http://istaria.wikia.com/wiki/Ruxus I was feeding got downright angry! A list of the creatures I have started documenting is here: http://istaria.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Creature

i would recommend looking at the gamer's info entries.......
however, it is old info and some is incorrect - i printed out the draggy guides and some important info is incorrect:

for instance, Gold Rage I Active, Recycle 0:45, Hoard Cost: 40 2 Extra Attacks, +10 Attack Skill, 200% Damage Crippled I: Primal Resist, + Delay, +Recycle Gerix the Dragon Adventurer in Kion Speak with Wintheria the Gold Rage Trainer in Chiconis Kill 20 Sand Ogres, Level 11-15 SE of Kion Return to Wintheria the Gold Rage Trainer

this is not a sand ogre kill quest, it is a greater water gol kill quest.....

there are several more, in the craft quest list as well, so it would be a good thing to check the info out before submitting it....
(i am just a hatchie still, so i am still on my first level quests.....i will start making a note of the incorrect info i find and post for review or wiki update)

Velve - that would be *wonderful* if you could check the Hatchie quests. I made a new toon to check the Biped quests, so i've been editing/formatting as I go. And taking lovely pictures for my photo album

I said hello to Lord Bar'Akath today, but he had some Saris Mummy visitors already, so I left him to it. Three is a crowd :P

Gamersinfo does have great stuff, I especially love the schools info and how they are all hyperlinked nicely so you can follow forms/spells/trainers. I'm trying to think of a better way to help log info about quests, mobs, etc - all a work in progress

    i would be happy to!!
i finished the first 2 tiers of craft quests and unfortunately i can't remember if and what was incorrect there, but will start noting anything when i take them up again.....

here is another advent quest with incorrect kill info from gamer's info - so far, it is the kill info that is incorrect, the basic info to get started is all good.....

    Tooth and Claw Mastery I
Passive +10 Tooth and Claw skill
Gerix the Dragon Adventurer in Kion
Speak with Xerix the Tooth and Claw Trainer in Dralk
Kill 20 Sand Ogres, Level 11-15 SE of Kion
Return to Xerix the Tooth and Claw Trainer

this should say to kill 20 sand beetles, not ogres......

I've been working on the dragon crafting part of the Wiki as well... where are you putting these quests, vel? Does each one get its own page, or are they all together? Cause I'm starting to put together pages for the different crafting abilities, and it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get the abilities to link with their quests... or maybe include them on the same page.

i am not working on the wiki, fav! at least not directly!
i amy just suggesting that gamer's info would be a fair source of text material (i think they have a couple maps, but only the whole world one is any good to me) - keeping in mind that there is incorrect info there.
i am currently doing the draggy quests as a hatchie and am offering to report any incorrect info i run across.

tho i am happy to do what i can - i am a pretty good proofreader - i do not have the nature to do anything on this scope!

i admire stale and the dedication to do something like this!

Each quest has its own page, mainly because of how many steps most of them are and some quests give rewards part-way through as well. An example is here:

    http://istaria.wikia.com/wiki/T1_Rar...d_for_the_Road

and if you want to create a new quest, go to the home page and put the name of the quest in the "Quest" box on the right hand-side. Click the button and you should get the Quest template with the structure pre-formatted for you.

I don't think that all of the crafting quests need their own individual page. Same with adventure quests. "Gather 70 granite bricks" seems like a rather empty page. You don't even need to provide any more information since you can link "Granite" to a page about where it can be found, and "bricks" to information about how to craft slabs into bricks. All quests from the same trainer should be on the same page... the only possible exception I can think of is Dimentional Pocket cause some of those are lengthy. But still.

To me, it would make more sense to group them together by level. For instance, do all the level 50 crafting quests on one page, level 50 adventure on another page, etc.

When someone is in the mood to do some of these, that's probably how they would look them up anyway.
