Default The War of the Fallen Son

(Actually, the beam that Mhedon seems to be intercepting was aimed at Azu, not Awdz. Not gonna post up what that beam does to the poor golem before I know what Azu does in response. Meantime though...)

Maurger laughed, his hate-filled cackle echoing over the battlefield. Perhaps it was foolish to try this without blood. If no one was left to oppose him, then he would at last have the perfect world. It was no different than the lessons he learned as a hatchling: only the strongest lizard got his way.

Lungtien's spells crashed against the Titan's head. The first hit harmlessly against the tendril-filled face, but the last two hit the calcite eye, shattering the delicate stoneflesh eye. Maurger cursed in irritation. If he could not see them, then he'll just have to kill everything around him!

Placing the Titan's hands together, Maurger summoned forth the Darklight again. The two beams hit each other within his palms and scattered wildly, ghostly images of ireful apparitions spinning rapidly around the giant's arms, tearing at anything they touched, including the powerful shell of the Titan. Around and around the Titan's arms moved, spinning the hellish storm until is surrounded his whole body. The darkness tore at the stone flesh, but Maurger didn't feel it. He wasn't attached to the Titan in that way.

Ausixen stopped his charge as he saw the storm. "Back! Get back!" he shouted, taking cover still a few feet back.

The Titan threw his arms out, directing the storm out in a circle, hopefully taking his attackers with it. At the end, black ooze filled the fractured calcite eye and repaired the damage done, allowing him to see once more. The Titan looked battle-scarred, but still quite invincible.

"My power is absolute! None shall challenge their god!" the Fallen Son proclaimed.

(Sorry, I've been busy. Second post

Missed. But at least I got some of the little ones, suppose at least its heartwarming to know they're comfortably ashen in some lava pit... the red thought to herself. Then she noticed that the titan had really taken notice of this, and was raising a claw... hand...? Limb? -- Her arcane knowledge told her he was possibly going to cast a spell here, and if not, you may want to brace yourself.

She was already in the process of releasing a spell stored in her mind, one of the methods used by only a few mages in emergencies due to certain issues with using one's own brain to store energy. The air around her shimmers a moment as the force barrier appears around her in a large sphere.

Then the beam fired. There was no way she could be fast enough to move... though she attempted to counterspell it anyhow (and consequently found it wasn't a spell) as quickly as she could. With that failiure, all she could do was brace her focus and willpower against the front of her shield and rearrange it to try to take the hit as best she could in hopes it would hold.

The impact struck it squarely. And it was horribly strong, some sort of energy directly opposite anything of the prime. It ate through the barrier slowly like acid, and despite attempting to hold it, she could only block 3/4 of the attack.

There is a loud shattering noise as the barrier breaks and Azu is struck by the beam. It eats her wing membranes and instantly withers and blinds her. As she falls she lashes her front claws out and catches the ledge... using most of her strength to climb up back to the upper tier of Chiconis.

The once-red zombie looked around with clouded, blind eyes, listening to the commotion of the area, taking in the scents... her legs couldn't hold her any longer as she was still feeling her life draining away. She wasn't going down that easy. Not without returning the favor.

A shaky right claw rises up. It makes a quick few gestures and her raspy voice struggles to utter the correct words. When she finishes the spell, the dry zombie husk falls over, expires, and has cast 'Brittle IV' somewhere on the titan's stone.

Tagath saw the golem drop and miss getting hit by the darklight beam. Then he saw it's target, the mage on the hill. As she fell, she cast another spell. Though he didn't recognize the spell, he knew what it meant. ATTACK! Quickly he dove for Mhedon once again and grabbed the now-disoriented golem and went between once again, just above the titan, where Tagath once again dropped the golem. This time, let the golem do the damage to the golem. He then concentrated on lashing out at the titan with the Demon Claw. As the darklight spun around from the titan's hands, Tagath was clipped in the right wing, causing him to drop out of the air. Another short hop between and Tagath was on the ground, a hard thud shaking his entire body. Unable to breathe or move for a little while, he was little more than a blue lump of ground until he could breathe once again.

Tagath summoned the strength for a quickening breeze to help him heal what damage it could, but the wingsails were gone. At least he was no longer leaking ichor. The dark energy was still eating away slowly at the wing, but it could be stopped in time. Movement, on the other hand, was going to take longer, as several leg bones had snapped with the impact. He was going to have to be healed more before he could rejoin the fight on the ground.

As the golem unleashed its dark storm, LungTien growled and quickly flew away to ensure he would stay out of range. When the titan became visible again, the black dragon noticed it was looking less healthy than before. Would that storm attack hurt the construct?

Still, Temeraire wasn't willing to try to make Maurger launch it again, and he grinned when he saw the eye is being repaired. That was going to be harder than he thought at first. As he was flying further from Maurger and his huge golem, the spellcaster turned his head back towards them, and saw Tagath lying on the ground (a bit away?).

Worried that the other dragon might have been caught by the dark storm, the Helian spellcaster darted back towards him and landed near Tagath. Then, he casted some healing breezes and spells on him. Peering at the titan with keen eyes, LungTien asked Tagath:
    -Will you be fine, dragon?

    - OoC on -
And sorry for the letters I have forgotten in my previous posts, as well as the words and other confusions... *rubs his head with a forepaw and shows an uneasy look.

Tagath felt the snaps as his leg bones started healing and his breath suddenly came easier. Looking up, he saw the black dragon peering up at the titan.

"I will be. That must be destroyed first." Looking at his wing, the withering effect had been slowed a bit more. Tagath cast another breeze up on himself, then began launching improved prime bolts at the body of the titan. Any damage he could cause could only help the situation.

LungTien Temeraire glanced back at Tagath, then at his wing.
-Hmmm... you'd better be able to fly.
With that, the spellcaster uses a powerful Instant Heal of Cleansing, focusing it on the injured wing, and trying to remove totally the withering effect.
-We should stay mobile and in the air, if we want to take that monster down. And stay out of its attacks' range.

Tagath spread his wing slightly and watched the wingsails repair, the withering effect gone. He stretched the new wing with the old and tested it for flight.

"I agree. There must be a way to open it up." Tagath looked at the titan, then came up with an idea. Looking northwest, he leapt into the air and disappeared between and reappeared over the Isle of Fire. He scanned the crater for the aid he would seek in an unlikely source. As he had done with Mhedon, he would try with another of Istaria's fauna. Finding Lorgus, he grabbed the giant fire beetle from behind and took it between to Chiconis and tossed Lorgus at a gaping wound with black ooze still showing.

Awdz worked her way over to the port pad and cast flame attack and as many protective spells as she could think of on C`gan and on any others who appeared there. When Azu was slammed with the bolt, Awdz usesd her bow to clear a path toward her. Slipping through as quickly as any gnome could, Awdz cast a healing resurrection spell to revive Azu once at her side.

Continuing to harass the goo army with her bow and spells, Awdz almost missed seeing Tagath injured. Struggling to get to him, she was relieved to see LungTien restore the dragon quickly. As he flew up, she cast the gift of alacrity on him and then buffed all allies nearby with as many spells as she could think of, in between attacks on the army.

Callihan skidded to a halt as the massive golem became forming a whirlwind of what seemed to be apparitions around itself. He quickly whirled around and darted back to get himself out of range of the raging whirlwind. He stood back and watched the whirlwind ravage anything that was caught in its path. The attack seemed to damage the golem as well, but it didn’t seem all that worried.

LungTien’s previous attacks seemed to have done very little if any damage. What could they do to take this thing down? It seemed they didn’t have enough firepower; the only thing that was strong enough to really do any damage to the Titan was the Titan itself. Perhaps there was a way to get the golem to destroy itself. If they got it to use that whirlwind over and over again it might be enough to shred away enough stone flesh so that their attack would be more effective.

“Ausixen! We might be able to take down this thing if we can get him to use that whirlwind over and over. He damages himself with it.” Callihan knew this was a risky plan; many could be caught in the whirlwind, but hopefully they knew enough to stay out of the way if the could.

Selarth’s body lay broken and battered on the ash covered ground. The healer’s magic quickly began reversing the damaged caused to the blight dragon and calling his soul back to him before it had time to recall to a shrine.

Instead of the cold embrace of Mahagrah, Selarth could feel that he was still in the intense heat of Dralk. The cacophony of battle once again assaulted his ears. The only conclusion he could come to was that he was resurected. He slowly opened a blood red eye and looked around. There was a big, blurry, blue shape and two smaller humanoid shapes. One of the blurry figures was healing him.

Selarth shut his eye again. He could feel every broken bone, every cut, and every tear mend. He slowly rolled over onto his paws and shakily stood up. He shook his head trying to clear it of that post-death/resurrection fuzziness. Though his body was healed, he still felt weak, his energy was drained. He would have to continue the fight without his blight powers; those would take time to replenish.

Selarth blinks a few times, his vision clearing. Those blurry shapes turned out to be Maekrux, the healer, and a mage. He spotted the destroyed body of the Edari Ancient and went over to it. He snorts with what seems to be a disappointed look. “I was going to come back and kill it...” He doesn’t seem too grateful that he was resurrected, he would have just recalled and come back to fight anyways.

The blight dragon gives himself a rough shake, and he cracks his neck. He flexes his talons and charges back into the battle without a hint of any kind of gratitude to his helpers.

The black ancient nodded as Tagath took the air, and he turned his head towards Awdz, noticing she was casting buffs on him. Temeraire quickly found her among other bipeds, and he casted some dragon buffs on the gnome as well.

But he had no time to stay there longer, and he took his flight as well, flying back towards the titan. Wondering how they could destroy their opponent, he got an idea. Yes, Temeraire would try to blind the golem again, hoping it would be forced to use that damaging storm.

In his mind, that plan seemed to be the only one the Gifted and the non-Gifted had to save Chiconis. Flying in circles around the huge construct again, the Helian dragon threw more prime bolts and fire bolts, aiming at its eye.

LungTien's strength was fading, and it was getting harder and harder to keep flying and fighting. Baring his teeth and panting, he focused more at the golem, fearing he wouldn't be able to dodge its attacks as easily as at the beginning.

((I am not posting again until kae posts...))

Cold, black, abyssal. This what was it was like before the tug of recall began to pull, yet it wasn't pulling hard enough. Somehow that beam's corruptive power was absolute, and this power had sharded portions of the dragon's soul essences as easily as it was to break a mirror. It too had left a taint in every shard.

Then suddenly... life. A spell coalesced enough fragments together to create a semi-whole essence.

Azu suddenly choked and coughed, the lungs taking in some new air... but then she realized that she could never quite breath enough. Her limbs regained feeling, but her muscles felt weak. Her eyes at last regained their sight, and it was then that she realized she was still blinded.

The spell had restored her, and the lingering taint of every soul shard had reversed it. She was a withered corpse again, and this time a living one. Perhaps it sometimes is just better to stay dead, she thought to herself.

Eventually the residual effects of the ressurection granted her mobility and enough energy to stand once again. She would have to deal with being some living zombie another day by visiting magi and healers, or at least hope the titan accidentally kills her again at some point. She stood in spot for a few moments, taking in the scents and sounds, attempting to determine /where/ everything is... at current, she is highly disoriented.

Fortified by the dragon's spells and her own magics, Awdz decided to try again to damage the Titan. She followed Temeraire's flight; seeing him focus on its head, she loosed an arrow for its head as well. The arrow flew true, sinking deep up into one of the titan's nostrils. Black goo snot ran down the arrowshaft as the titan tossed its head at the sudden injury.

Catching sight of Tagath firing bolts at the titan's body, Awdz decided to try her strongest shot there. Reciting a heartfelt prayer to Istara as she took aim, she let her bowstring hum. The arrow flew as though seeking the very heart of the titan. It slammed into the brittle side of the giant monstrosity, causing a crack as tall as the gnome herself to show in its side.

Awdz turned back the army battling about her. Doubtful that she could do anything more to the titan until she recovered enough energy to summon another tornado, she instead focused again on destroying as many of the lesser black goo-driven creatures around her as she could.

C`gan nodded thanks to Awdz as he ran toward the battle. He battled his way through the lesser forces as best he could, a shield block here, a sword thrust there, anything to keep the forces around him energized with hope that more help would be on the way.

The air above sizzled with the first darklight blast. C`gan instinctively ducked and watched the beam soar overhead. Whatever that hits isn't going to survive, he thought. Above, he caught a glimpse of blue there, then not. Tagath's up to his old tricks again. Good to know. Maybe he'll bring back something to turn the tide even further.

As C`gan kept a warrior's eye on the attacking mountain of a thing, he saw Tagath blink in again, dropping what appeared to be a marble boulder golem. Then things turned sour. The golem's arms raised and pointed palm-to palm. C`gan raced to the lee side of a ravine and curled up, his shield protecting his body. As the waves of darklight energies spun around and blasted everything they touched, C`gan waited, hoping he'd chosen a hillside thick enough. He felt clumps of dirt fall on the shield as the blasts circulated. Once the air stopped sizzling, C`gan dared to climb the remnants of the hill. The thing had damaged itself as well as TAGATH!

C`gan focused on the issue at hand. Tagath would get up. There was no heart-wrenching feeling of an Impressed dragon's death this time. He'd either heal himself of get aid from one of the healers nearby. Instead, C`gan dropped down the hill and around, using as much cover as he could to get just in range of the titan. He put away sword and shield and pulled out his crossbow. Damage was damage in this fight and crossbow bolts were as far a range as C`gan had. He began methodically loading, aiming (though nowhere in particular at such a big thing), and firing. Wait. He saw an arrow fly and cause a crack. THAT is where he should aim. C`gan focused more on the spot of the arrow and the crack and let fly more crossbow bolts.

Default The War of the Fallen Son

The Titan still stood, though some cracks had formed in the armor. The tendrils of its face had grasped the fire beetle and torn the hapless creature apart. Likewise Mhedon had become a projectile, thrown into the line of dragons and bipeds who fought his Edari children. A few arrows had stuck in his brittle armor, but he did not feel them, nor did he feel any sense of danger. In his Titan, he was absolute.

Arrows and prime bolts crashed against the eye of the Titan, shattering once again. Maurger cursed wildly, taking two blind steps forward and then summoning forth the hellish shadow storm around his body again. It tore away the arrows lodged in his hide, but also the hide itself - now exposed beneath the reforged travertine shell was the stone from Granitefall Mountains, from which the Titan's inner body was formed. It was here that the brittle spell Azu cast had sank. The soft stone was even softer. The battle scarred golem-body had exposed its back, right leg, and left arm.

As the storm very nearly hit the front line of fighting dragons on the hill leading into Chiconis, bulbous knots formed in the tendrils that waved wildly with Maurger's irritation. The growths traveled up to the top and exploded out, raining black ooze to the ground; now at the end of every tendril was a new eye, staring in multiple directions. It would be impractical to blind him now.

"I grow tired of these games! Bow down and worship me, and I may yet be merciful!" Maurger exclaimed.

The Titan's hands aimed in two directions, pointing the dreaded Darklight Tricuts at LungTien and C'gan.

((sorry for the way-late post! been preoccupied recently))

Daemonar was still watching from high-above Chiconis, avoiding any attacks happened to be aimed her way, though her wings miss a beat as she saw the Titain. She waits for several long moments, waiting to see what it did. Everything in this battle was new!

She watches as it readies another attack to Temeraire and C'gan. C'gan! She frowns and then snorts. Not knowing how much of an opening she had, or even if this was a great opportunity, she dives out of the sky, attempting to at least distract the Titain for a precious moment.

Having heard Maurger's voice, she snarls, howling his name in fury to aid in her distraction. "MAURGER!"

If she got close, her dive aimed for it's head, she would attempt to burrow through one of it's eyes.
