I have the weapon, armor, and tool socketing techniques. In my creation menu, the description says it can be added post-creation. Does that mean I can make the technique separately? If so, how? Does that require a separate craft school?

Nope
socket techniques can be bought in sslanis, and you can apply the bought tech to gear
Buy the socket tech from the QM in Sslanis. You can of course right click and Scribe this to be in your Tech book.
Now buy a couple of extra techs from said QM. Drag the tech and drop it on top of a non socketed in your inventory. Voila. The post-created item is now socketed! I'm pretty sure 99% of the people make socketed items post-creation because it cost a few orbs and something else when you add it in the item creation window. By doing it post-creation, no extra resources you need to add. This works on all socketable items (armor, tools, weapons, claws).
Death points are temporary, Glory is forever!

Tech kits are applied post creation. Sockets were added some time ago at QM in Sslanis. You do not need to add socket tech at creation as kits are available. Same with dye.
Edit: ^ what Cega said
rip
Thanks for the help. It does look cheaper to buy it than to make it.
Cheaper in time and coin...anything you can do to reduce the number of tech ings needed is a good thing
Meddle not in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy, and extra-tasty dipped in ketchup.
