Thread: What makes a great MMORPG?

Default What makes a great MMORPG?

Bowling is an interesting game. Have a bunch of pins, you roll a heavy ball and try and knock them down. Have a few rules and fairly simple scoring system. Many have had the perfect bowling game but still keep playing. Why?

Bowling alleys are even more interesting. Most are beat up ol places with insane decor and horrible music. Usually some video games, couple pool tables, greasy food and a bar.

The people at the bowling alleys are by far the most interesting. Goofy looking guys with arm braces, fancy shoes, chalk all of their fingers and one ugly shirt on, standing in the next lane is a bunch of drunken college kids hootin and a hollerin annoying the hell out of Mr fancy shoes. You havepro bowlers, casual bowlers, non bowlers just getting drunk, pool players, kids, freaks, non-freaks bowling or just hangin out. Have bowling leagues where folks teamup and compete against other teams. People usually dont join bowling leagues until they are adults thou. After awhile in the league most start upgrading their shoes, ball, start adding tape to their fingers all sorts of crazy stuff. The bowling teams usually have side games goin on, consisting of gambling, nudy cards andstrange dances when they bowl 3 strikes in a row. For the rookie bowlers they have bumpers on the lanes so you can at least feel like you dont suck.

All in all bowling and the whole bowling experience is a pleasant time to most. Until you wander into the dreaded bowling alley. Can only bowl there on certain nights because all the others are designated for League Bowlers. The electronic scorekeeper thing only works half the time. The pins dont restack half the time. The short stumpy guy that must be called to fix the pins takes 15 minutes to figure it out. Cant even play pool because all the ******** sticks are crooked and the ******** video games keep stealing your quarters. And to top it all off, the bar is watering down the drinks and ran outta pitchers.

Now even after a horrible experience at this bowling alley,Most dontstop bowling they justhead to another bowling alley. Why? Because bowling is social, sometimes competive, and always fun.

Maybe tulga games needs to have a company bowling night.

However, some people stick it out at the old place, hoping that one day it will be better...they are friends with several other people who go there, and they have good memories there...then, a new owner takes over and decides to try and fix things...they begin fixing some of the lanes, and replacing the rotten wallpaper. They also start working on a way to improve the unique properties of the alley. Granted, they are trying to salvage something that has already chased many people away, but at least now there is hope for the few who remained that their bowling alley will stay and perhaps be the best in the world...

Keep it up Devs [Y] You have an old, beat up bowling alley, but this bowler will keep trying to roll strikes (When the pins reset correctly) until the doors lock for good, or the alley becomes world class...Just keep up the good work [:D]
Death is the ultimate dilemma and integral to the beliefs and behavior of every culture. Life is bore on the corpses of the dead. Without death, there would be no motivation to do anything. The only emotion would be existing. Life would be pestilent and agonizing.

Ssilmath does you sticking it out really make things better or worse? Basically we are beta testing a year old game and paying for it. No good press is coming from anywhere. This post wasnt about the old diehards, it was a statement about what makes agreat game.

Golf and a golf course, poker and a casino.

They are desperately seekingnew players and in my opinion its pretty simple. Fix things that are broke and remember why people play fantasy games. TO KILL CRITTERS AND FIND COOL STUFF. Add multiplayer to that equation and you have the social and competitive part. Crafting is a hobby.CraftingisNOT a game. Peoplemake model cars to relax and feel a sense of achievement when the model is complete. Its great that Horizons has made a great side hobbybut the main point of the game has major problems. (Fighting off the WA)

Online gaming is addictive, just like bowling, golf, gambling can be, but if the course, world, alley, casino is broke, unattractive and very little fun all that will be left is the addicts. The addictscompletely alter the whole feel of the environment. I highly doubt that any of us 2-6 hours a day folks are making the gaming environment called Horizons more attractive for new players.

I am 100% positive Ssilmath that your intentions are good as well as many others here that find my post sarcastic. And yes my post are meant to be, because I personally feel the Devs are majorly missing the boat. Maybe if they stepped back and went golfing, fishing, bowling or sat down and played a gameof poker as agroup they might figure out what its all about.

Keep up the good work? Folks have been saying that for the 7+ months I've been playing. Be honest man. Things are still broke, everything that gets added is only half finished and most of it makes the game worse. And lag, the reason lag is percieved as better isnt because of anything they did. Its because theres only 200 players online!

Social, competitive, and fun. Get back to the basics of what makes ANY game great.

Product, Place, Price and Promotion. Its hard to market when the product is unfinished, the place is broke, the price is average, and the word-of-mouth is negative. Can they be changed? Hell yeah, improve the first three and find out the power of the fourth.
