Re: Talk to the Team: Dragon Schools: New Schools
As to what Kaerisk sayd, I agree 100%. This thread has been here long enough to not have produced anything new beside pointless arguments.
Want a new class? Say your idea or vote for one already existing.
Don't want a new class? Then nobody is pushing you to use it. You know that there is a way to switch schools? It's not mandatory. But don't ruin other peoples wishes just because YOU don't want to use it/have it. It's your choice, but see it this way. Someone gives the idea to build a supermarket at x place, and there are 10 people to vote. You go and be the only one to vote NO, so the other 9 people can screw up and there will be no supermarket, just because you don't like the idea.
Maybe if you do want a new class but don't entirely like the suggestions sayd, then just say your own, or say no to this and that, but don't say plain NO just because you don't like certain aspects of it.
Come on people, don't be childish. This is a community, people have to compromise in order to get anything. And yes, as Kaerisk stated we are a SMALL community. Every vote counts, every idea counts. So if you see that many do vote or say Yes to a certain thing, don't be a d*ck and say No. Think about the majority that did say Yes.
I tought Istarian community was one of the most mature I've encountered on the internet since most of the players I've got to know are +30 or around that age so.. reasoning? Anyone?
As to my vote, YES. I do want more dragon schools. (I repeat, nobody is pushed or needed to use the new classes if there will be any. You can keep your normal school as it is.)

Um, I hate to pop your bubble, but the OP says:

Emphasis is mine
Kinda affects everyone... there is no "switching". The revelation that we could possibly have new schools without modifying the existing one much is... a rather new revelation. 90% of this thread has arguments because it would've been a giant change since old dragons would either have to be grandfathered (leading to thoughts of 'OP VETS WTF') or forced to change (Making people angry for having to start over/change their play style they've had for years)
Anyway, my vote is to keep the normal school as the 'base class' and add new schools. I liked the ideas of a DoT-based hatchling school and the specialization "conquerer"/"primalist" schools, but those are my only thoughts I have to add.
Re: Talk to the Team: Dragon Schools: New Schools
I'm with Racktor on creating specialisations rather than creating something completely from scratch.
Re: Talk to the Team: Dragon Schools: New Schools
I have to agree with Racktor's points on this.
A simple yes or no answer won't work for something complicated like this. Its too complex of a question to simplify into black or white. Asking for a simplified answer is not asking them to discuss why they agree or disagree, nor does it allow an open discourse that makes room for a variety of opinions or expression of other options or ideas.
This isn't a minor change where the devs are asking us if we want a new text font or if we want new goldfish in Jenkin's Pond. Its a major change that is very complex and complicated and affects hundreds of players.
I'm undecided in total because in some ways I would love to see certain things that are possible, but in others aspects of dragon schools that could be implemented or have been previously discussed both on and off these forums I would have to disagree with.
Re: Talk to the Team: Dragon Schools: New Schools
What Racky says. What Arzel says.
Re: Talk to the Team: Dragon Schools: New Schools
Actually, my plan was to lead an iterative discussion, in which we discuss school ideas point by point, dealing with what kind of classes, restrictions, balance, etc. But I wanted to make sure that we all actually wanted new schools, or at least a majority did, so that the discussion would not be a wasted effort. Please, please, please, please, please work with me.
At this stage all I would like is a yes or no answer. It's fine if your answer is no or undecided, but I would like to just get a base line of whether or not people actually want this. We need to be truthful with each other if we're to get anything accomplished.
Directions: Please answer the question with a yes or no answer. Further questions will come later allowing for more discussion.
Do you want new dragon adventure schools?

I understand what you say, and forgive me thus I have forgotten to state more clearly my idea. I know this thread has been made to modify the existing adventure school, I was pointing out to make a second or third school, leaving the existing one as it is.
Thus my speech about no needing to switch if you don't desire.
I'm sorry if it got confused.
Re: Talk to the Team: Dragon Schools: New Schools
Even if we had a discussion on a yes or no scenario, probably only about 20% of people who play Istaria use the forums so we could never speak for the game.
I do feel that the Dev's will look more closely at the possibilities once they are done with the Tier revamps and possibly even the graphics engine.
Until then it's like Amon has asked for, a discussion where ideas can be thrashed out.
Let's not forget there are some of us that have played since day one and whilst they don't speak for the Devs, they have a pretty good idea of what will work and what wont. ;)
Re: Talk to the Team: Dragon Schools: New Schools
Simple answer is yes, dragons do need new schools.
It would add more things to do and ways to play, which would help to draw and keep more in the game.
Re: Talk to the Team: Dragon Schools: New Schools
If it was done in same way as peds (running all around to switch schools, then being striped naked because your level suddenly doesn't meet min. requirements. Ridiculous trophy grind to level up etc.) I can't say it's something I would look forward to.

Have in mind, dragons can fly so switching schools is not that hard if that was the case.
Anyway, my vote is yes. Would be nice to have someting to do with my ancient.
Re: Talk to the Team: Dragon Schools: New Schools
Unofficial poll results:
9 people responded.
Yes:
2 Yes
1 Yes (superfluous comments)
2 Yes (if, specializations)
(Total: 5)
No:
1 No (if)
1 Undecided
1 Refusal to participate
1 Contradictory statement
(Total: 4)
Ultimately, this topic remains too divisive to discuss in open forum and possibly too divisive to implement. I'll leave it to you all to argue whether or not the no votes should count as no votes, but I have reached the conclusion that we will be unable to successfully navigate an iterative discussion from the evidence I have on hand. We can try again next year. My school suggestions remain on the board and are, as always, free to be used by the devs should they consider implementing anything new, as are many other good ideas in this thread.
Thank you for your time and participation.
