Thread: The Map Pack V3.2

  1. #1

    Default The Map Pack V3.2

    Version 3.2 is now available
Both the High res and low res versions are now available.
The low res version of the map was made by Tulga.
The high res version was made with topomap by Fridlekh. I assume this was also used for tulga's maps.

I made a handy installer for the Map Pack for those who want an easy installation.
In theory it should automaticly find where your copy of HZ is installed.
For those that do not trust an executable made by some guy from a forum the zip files are also available.
The Zip version can be found near the bottom of this post.

    What is the map pack?
The map pack is a large collection of map markers all over istaria, a range of new marker icons and in the case of the high res map pack offers a higher detail map too.

To help you find markers easier there are several filters to turn marker categories on and off.
The Group, Players, Markers and NPC's layer are system layers, they have not been changed from their original function.
Group shows group members, players show players around you, markers shows your self placed markers and npc's shows the npc's around you.

The map pack also offers a range of new Icons to use for your own markers.

The map pack is a project originally started by Pekka from Unity.
Many different people have contributed in the form of map markers, icons abd detailed maps.

    Important! Read the installation instructions!
Do NOT install while HZ is running!

The Installer version of the Map pack
Choose the high res or the low res version:

The low resolution Map Pack v3.2
    http://www.ancientorder.org/Download...PackLowRes.exe

The high resolution Map Pack v3.2
    http://www.ancientorder.org/Download...ackHighRes.exe

    Installation instructions:
(for zip version install instructions see below the zip download)

Step one, install the map pack
Double click on the downloaded file to start the installation, the installation program now starts.

In the first screen click "next"

In the Second screen click "next"

In this screen you must select where to install the Map pack.
The installer should automaticly find where you have Horizons installed.
Please make sure it is pointing to the correct folder. It should installdirectly to your Horizons folder.
When you are done, click "next"

In the next screen click "start" to start the installation.

    Step Two, edit your clientprefs_main.def

Locate your ClientPrefs_Main.def file which is located in your Horizons\prefs\<servername>_<charactename r>\ folder.

Open the file and find this line near the bottom:

    string mapPath = "resources\interface\maps"

    Change this line to read:

    string mapPath = "resources_override\interface\maps"

    Close and safe the file.

    You are now done!
    Enjoy the Map Pack.

The Zip version of the Map pack
Choose the high res or the low res version:

The low resolution Map Pack v3.2
    http://www.ancientorder.org/Download...LowResv3.2.zip

The high resolution Map Pack v3.2
    http://www.ancientorder.org/Download...ighResv3.2.zip

    Installation instructions:

    Step One:
If you have a version of the map pack earlier then version 3.0 installed:
Remove the previous version of the map pack.
After deinstalling the map pack run a full scan.
Log out again and locate the folder "Ncon" in \Horizons\Resources\interface\maps and delete it.

If you have version 3.0 installed:
Go to \Horizons\Resources_override and open the folder "Interface".
Inside you will find the folders "themes" and "maps", delete these two folders.

    Step Two
Simply unzip the zipfile into your Horizons root folder to install.
The unzip process will ask permission to overwrite a file, click yes.
    Example:
You have Horizons installed to C:\program files\Artifact Entertainment\Horizons.
Unzip the file into that path. all files will be dropped in the right place automaticly.

    Step Three
Open your ClientPrefs_Main.def file which is located in your Horizons\prefs\<servername>_<charactename r>\ folder and find the line near the bottom:

    string mapPath = "resources\interface\maps"

    Change this line to read:

    string mapPath = "resources_override\interface\maps"

This will prevent the patcher from deleting the map pack.
Thanks to Amon for that tip.

    Changes for version 3.2
    -Created a user friendly installer.
-Completely renewed all map markers for Lesser Aradoth.
-Updated New Trismus with Crystals, new lair and wisp field.
    -Added markers to Drakul.
    -Added markers for lairs.
-Added markers for Azulyte Crystals (not all fields found yet).
-Added new icons for Lairs and Azulyte Crystals.
-Made the icons for tier 2-6 Fungus available (were commented out in def file for some reason).

    Changes for version 3.1
-Fixed the resource layer to display the missing resource markers.
-Fixed the npc layer to display the missing npc markers.
-Fixed the name of new vassarak, it was displaying as new ssilna.
-Changed the map to the offical Tulga map, its a relief map so there is longer a need for a player made map. a 512x512 version will soon be available.
-Added a texture relief map for New Trismus.
-Updated map markers for New Trismus.
    -Updated map markers for Kion
-Updated map markers for Island of the Drowned

    Changes for version 3.0
-Merged the Trainers, Merchants and npc layers into a single Npc Layer. Less layers=less lag
-Merged the different tier resource layers into one layer, again to improve performance.
-Restored the zoom levels, we can ones again zoom in all the way.
    -Added Drakul.
    -Added Serenity.
    -Added Balits Island.
    -Added Island of the drowned.
-Added a relief map of trandalar.
-Added a "map" for the rift. This map is in fact no real map but only a placeholder graphic. The Sleeper and the landing pad are visible on the map. Its only good for finding your location in relation to the two mentioned points and your group mates. It is by no means useable to navigate the maze that is the rift. I felt that exploring the rift and getting lost there is part of its charm and Im sure the devs would want you to get lost there.

    whats left to do:
-Update the map markers, moving from low tier to high tier. The idea is to help improve the newbie experience.
-Increase the size of the Kion map to show lady Kendra's manor.
-Create texture relief maps for the other 3 newbie islands.
-Find a way to keep UImapwindow.def from patching over, putting it in resource_override doesn't work.
-More stuff that isn't currently coming to mind.

    Thanks go out to:

Fridlekh, for his great Topomap program.

Pekka, for leaving us the legacy of the map pack project.

Daj, for providing the Rift def files and making sure the player markers in the rift are actually dragons instead of bipeds with swords.

Elspeth, for providing the new markers for Lesser Aradoth.

    Dragoniade, for providing lair markers.

    Inferno, for being a testsubject.

The many players who provided the map markers.

    Enjoy the Map Pack!

I'd be happy to work with you on getting some official data included. On our site, we've got the exact locations of all the NPC's, machines, plots and teleports (shrines and lairs coming soon, hopefully). We could generate .DEF files to be included.

In addition, if you check out our map page, we could generate a layer for the plots/lairs showing their sizes and everything (like the roads layer is down currently).

Let me know if you would like to corroborate.

Generated def files for current locations of things would be very much apreciated :)
Currently plots are added to the "points of interest" layer. I'd like to keep it that way as each added layer gives a slight performance hit.

I would love to corroborate, anyones input will be very much apreciated.

I have a silly question. I have noticed on my hard drive that there are two folders. One is Artifact Games and one is Tulga Games. I don't know why there are two folders for the same game. Should I delete one? I have tried before to install the map packs and have had no luck. Maybe this is the reason behind it. I would really like to have the fan created maps because they can save me from searching all over for what I am looking for or bugging people as to where things are located. Thanks.

I have no idea wich one will contain the Horizons install that you actually use but there is a way to find out.

By playing the game you amass a world cache. Just check the file size for both folders, I suspect the larger one is the one containing the game data.
Unzip the zip file to the Horizons folder that exists in the larger of the two folders and I bet it will work.

Just checked the file sizes. Artifact only has 345 KB while Tulga Games has a little over 2 gigs. I'll load there. Thanks.

Nice work in reviving this! I have never used the Pepka's version because it lagged so bad for some friends of mine, but someone in my guild said this one doesn't have that issue[:D]

Default Missing resources on map ?

First thank you for taking over the work with the mappack.
I have a nice performence increase with you mappack something we can always use.

Now to my problem hope it is just me that have messed something up.

Some off the resources are missing from the map.
Around aughendell (havent test other cities)
    Mitthrill ore Mitthrill golem shown
Nickel ore Nickel golem and iron ore shown
    Cotton and silk spiders shown
Did a search for cotton and the one at maghara was there.

The png files are intact and can be opened.
The resources seems to be correct defined in the def file.

Since no body have reported this problem I have to assume that I am missing something.

    Keep up the good work

    No, your not missing something.
I found out this morning that some higher tier resources are missing from the map.
I assume I messed up when I merged the different resource layers into one.
    Should be fixed next version.

Another little bug is that the road layer is slightly missaligned.

I think it would be a good idea to remove all the plots from the map_istaria_interest.def as the plots are drawn on the terrain map allready. You know, those who are represented by map_marker_house.png

Everything else looks fine to me, great work! I'm glad someone continues Pekkas work.

Awesome! Thanks so much for the update! :)

Is there any way to get the resources separated by tier again though? I liked being able to turn off parts of my resources while leaving the others up. If you could just tell me *how* to do it, that would work too. (And would actually be preferable, so I know how to tinker with my own maps. ;) )

Two more comments, now that I have it installed and saw it running...

    1) The maps seem a lot less colorful than the ones I had with the most recent version of Pekka's. I realize this may have been to increase performance, but...well...I'm rather fond of the older version.

    2) Where did all the trainers go? I've been through a few towns and only saw 2-3 trainers on the map. Not so bad when I'm on my dragon, but it's giving me fits on my T1 biped. I know where *nothing* is. :(

On the whole though, nice job...the map opens up a lot faster now. :)

I've been thinking about that as it will remove a lot of clutter on the map.
I want to add dragons lairs in the future however so it may not be fair to biped players.
    Don't know yet.

Is there any way to get the resources separated by tier again though?
There is but I dont recommend it, more layers = more lag.
If you really want to do it download 2.9 and install it to a temp folder.
\Resources\interface\maps contains several sub folders for each different map.
Each folder contains a map.def and a def file for each resource tier layer.
copy these files to their corresponding folders in \Horizons\resources_override\interface\maps, allow it to overwrite.
Next open each map_mapname_resources.def file in each map folder, delete the contents and save them.

resource marker updates in the future will all be done in the one resource layer though, so the different resource layers will not be updated.

    1) The maps seem a lot less colorful than the ones I had with the most recent version of Pekka's. I realize this may have been to increase performance, but...well...I'm rather fond of the older version.
These are in fact the same maps I made for 2.9, I just updated them with more recent additions to the world. I did compress them a bit more though.

    2) Where did all the trainers go? I've been through a few towns and only saw 2-3 trainers on the map. Not so bad when I'm on my dragon, but it's giving me fits on my T1 biped. I know where *nothing* is
I made some errors merging the map layers, will be fixed in 3.1 or 3.2.

I just installed 3.1, but haven't looked at it yet. Thank you again for all your hard work on this!

    serious?

since most other stuff (besides maps) allready works when you drop em in the root of resource_override.
Like the dragon model for example, or emotes.

anyway, will change instructions accordingly, thanks for pointing this out.

    V3.1 is great.
when adding new markers, I can use the new set again, not only the standard (maybe my 3.0 was somehow buggy)
Today I saw that some (maybe all) NPC are shown as blue dots if you are near enough. like players as yellow dots. don't know if this is new.
