Thread: feature: Chat timestamp

  1. #1

    Default feature: Chat timestamp

this game is missing one small and important feature that all other mmorpgs have .... that is Chat timestamp...

and an on/off option in preferences or chat settings

Yeah, most MMOs seem to don't have timestamps for some silly reason. In every single game where it is possible for players to mod it in, though, it will be. It is a very desired feature, even if the majority of players couldn't care less about it.

Yeah, this is something I'd like a lot. Sometimes I go afk without mentioning it to guild, get caught up in something, then come back to questions...never have any idea how long it's been....

I'm fairly certain EQ 1 added a timestamp to any logged chat. I'm pretty sure about Anarchy Online too.

I've never logged a chat in the other half a billion MMORPG's I've played, so I couldn't tell you.

Kumu Honua, what do you mean by their progenitors? Do you mean MUD's?

Star Wars Galaxies has the option to turn on timestamps, I personally found it very useful.

    Which game? I mentioned two.

You could log tells in EQ 1 and they'd have a timestamp. I just confirmed that with somebody, and it was implemented fairly early on.

I wouldn't describe M59 or the Realm as progenitors of the modern MMORPG, to me that label goes to MUD's, SMAUG-based and the like, or door BBS games like LORD...

...and I've just reminded myself of how many hours I sunk into LORD...

Anyhow, I can see why people would want timestamps on chat logs. It's a useful feature that wouldn't be hard to implement.

I doubt the feature could be easily added they have enough graphics issues with the chat as it is adding to the text chat with out taking the time to fix existing chat issues would be ludacrise
Given enough time and the proper temperament anything doable in game is possible

Adding timestamps to in-game chat is most probably trivial.
