Thread: VISTA pretty please

    Default Re: VISTA pretty please

There is a question, I can read very often here: Does Istaria run with Vista?
Well, the answer is easy in my case: It runs - if it starts.
And it evan runs very, very well, but it is so bothering to try and try and try to get into the game.
Sometimes I decide to log into the game to relax a little bit before going to sleep or having something to do - and than I have to restart my PC for several times. Sometimes it works on the first try sometimes I need countless retries.
And though I am a very patient person, sometimes it is one time too much I have to retry, so that I do not want to get ingame anymore at all on those days.

I do not not want to whine - I love this game and was so happy that we were given the chance to transfere our characters from Unity to an US shard.
I want to encourage all those who think it does not work with Vista - it does, if you are patient enough to try and try again.
And - I am honest - I want to encourage the devs, too, to fix this problem, because I think there are not too few people who would love to continue this game or give it a first chance - if they just get in.

right there with ya ash - and that's what i try to tell peeps.
when it runs, it runs awesomely without any more than the probs i had with xp.
but if you need to reboot your puter for anything - then it gets sucky....

i play daily with my vista machine... it works without problems

i just need to restart the laptop somtimes 3 and sometimes 10 times before it will work.. luckly i do this when allready playing on my normal machine

**edit** just double click on the .exe or create a direct shortcut to the .exe to find out if its working on this boot (no need to log in to the website every reboot)

Exactly what I do after a reboot. Can take me much longer though, sometimes it went up to 2h30 of rebooting. So now I just put it on sleep. I think I haven't rebooted it for 2 months now

Is there any update for the poor Vista Users? It is very frustrating to try to come online for more than one hour and uncountable computer restarts.
No, to let the compi sleep is NOT a possible and acceptable solution.
So please give the vista Users hope!

    I offer this 'as is':

Do the reboots till you get horizons.exe to launch and tell you to go to the website to launch it

    Click okay

That will take ya to the website click play istaria

That takes ya to login page for istaria

Login like usual and go to character select

Pick the toon you want, and launch the game

The patcher should fail, giving you a silentpatcher.exe.aug wasn't found

    Copy silentpatcher.exe.aug from /programfiles/virtrium/horizons/launcher

And put it in /programfiles/vitrium/horizons folder

    Manually launch silentpatcher.exe

And it should patch and l aunch the game

    Improper question.

    Does DX9 support Istaria? Yes.

Does Istaria *use* DX9's features? No, it doesn't.

Well, you probably meant something like:

    "water can fill a bucket"
"a bucket can be filled with water"

    but wrote

"water can be filled by a bucket".

I haven't had any problems runing programs on Vista except this one and Might and Magic 8 (though Might and Magic 8 didn't even run under XP, so that didn't surprise me).

I can't say I know much about this topic as I just starting looking up information on it, but has anyone tried running Horizons through an XP virtual machine on Vista? If so how well did it work, if at all? If it did work, what VM softare would be recommended?

VMware presents its own "display adapter" to the virtualized machine. The virtual display adapter isn't quite set up for gaming -- don't expect it to perform well, or even look right when running 3d apps.

In installed some of those "VM" software but they come with a 2D only version of DirectX or just few primitives of 3D.

Those softwares are mostly aimed at system administrators who need multiple "desktops" and to programmers creating cross platform (usually business or system) applications, thus no 3D is needed there.

okay guys - have been trying this out, but i don't seem to get to this point (in red...)

i have screenshots i could get of the process follow:

first off, i use a website shortcut on my desktop. i click the 'play horizons' icon and get the login website. i accept the eula and advance to the character selection screen -

i choose a char and advance to the char login screen -

since i turned of uac, i no longer get the silentpatcher.exe notice, but i would get it at this point. the launcher runs and i get this as the final screen -

i do not get the patcher fail and no notice of the silentpatcher.exe.aug error.
instead, i continue to get the 'horizons.exe stopped working' error message -

so i am not sure what i am doing wrong but i am still not able to get in without the almost endless reboots.

although I am an XP user and have not encountered the Vista issues that a lot of players unfortunately have I have an idea you could try since you are not receiving error about The patcher failing, giving you a silentpatcher.exe.aug wasn't found warning.

What if you just automatically go in before starting up and follow these three steps

    "Copy silentpatcher.exe.aug from /programfiles/virtrium/horizons/launcher

And put it in /programfiles/vitrium/horizons folder

    Manually launch silentpatcher.exe
    "

with silentpatcher.exe already running you may have no errors at all?

but once again, I don't know computers that well. I figured in the least you could try it.

would do that, but i do not have a virtium folder either - my only horizons folder is tulga.....
i will try the tulga folder tho...

okay i also do not have the .aug file.....i have silentpatcher.exe.args, is that the file i am looking for?

okay just copied the args file to my base folder as directed and manually launched the silentpatcher.exe and still recieve the horizons.exe has stopped working error message....

gonna reboot yet again and see if that takes....
