Random curiosity, does anyone know Buckethead, Michael Angelo Batio, Joe Satriani, or Luca Turilli?

Aside that what would anyone prefer to listen to?

    Never heard of them myself.

I'm no good at genre identification and even if I was my taste is probably too eclectic to sum up in that way, so here are some artists I like:

David Helpling, Arcana, Schandmaul, Apocalyptica, Enya, Chopin, Gordon Lightfoot, Garmarna, Yu Hongmei, Jia Peng Fang, Aramis, Gjallarhorn, Anoushka Shankar, Glenn Miller and other 40s stuff, French pop, Keiko Matsui's Dreamwalk album, VAST, Iain Morland, EVE Online's soundtrack, Hilary Hahn, some Red Hot Chili Peppers...

I love Joe Satriani... I've got three of his albums (Surfing with the Alien, Crystal Planet and Professor Satchafunkilus). I profess that I don't like many of his other albums, he really isn't a good singer IMHO

For the few who don't know Joe: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjNAe...eature=related) and the mighty Bucket: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUH0X...eature=related)

From the list, I prefer buckethead - he's got a real Hendrix feel when he's not melting the guitar, which I enjoy.

But then there's Arlen Roth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0sHJ...eature=related) and Steve Howe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KN2qvtosmM) who I also greatly enjoy.

I may have to disagree about Joe and say that Michael Angelo Batio is the guitar God. His innovation, speed, dexterity, and knowledge are superb. Satriani is still amazing though.

I wish I could find more music that utilizes some of the older classical stuff, much which does today uses too many arpeggio's. They need more scale work, even though it's technically harder than arpeggio's. I've recently been learning Paganini's 5th Caprise, in about 2 hours I've got about 4 measures down almost at tempo. I love the crazy theory behind works like that.

    Here's a few runs from Batio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kFI7...om=PL&index=31

Tom Waits!!! In um....jacks or spades or whatever, he's great. Miles Davis, Kind of Blue album, one of the best albums ever recorded. Old Joni Mitchell you can't touch, some old Ray Charles, oh my, there's been a lot of amazing music done.

More current, anything by Brad Paisley, and Allison Krause, I think she must be an angel, heh, I rock everyone already knows this tho, so, Tupac, he owned it, old Jimi, old Johhny Cash. Hip Hop has changed the musical landscape, love it or hate it, it's a very different musical landscape than it was 10 years ago. What sticks around remains to be seen, nice big fat beats I love, being an audiophile myself, enjoy the change in music my friends...and enemies...bite me, continue to challenge me...it ain't easy being the devil.

When talking about guitarists I always think bacxk to a very old Eddie Van Halen quote after winning some guitar magazine guitarist of the year award early in his career. " It's always an honour to win anything, but in all honesty the best guitarist in the world is probably pumping gas in Tennesse awaiting his break, that may or may not ever come."

Off OP's list only ever heard of Joe, and love him, I'll check out others love guitar of any genre. When judging guitarists I think of what were best ones live, studio stuff is easy to enjoy but hard to judge talent on without knowing how many tracks are used and how many takes it took. Gary Moore was best guitarist ive ever seen live, with honourable mention to a guy from a band I loathed growing up but saw opening for Mettalica, Dokkens George Lynch had probably best straight solo ive seen, and Stevie Ray Vaughn was most fluid ive ever seen.

AS for current favs in music, I'm in a real hardest fastest loudest type mood past few years.
