Forum question: How do I display a single post?

A thread url looks like this:
/forum/showthread.php?t=19086

I know how to get the url of a single post but can someone tell me how to modify the thread url to show a single post please?

I usually find the post and hit the quote button, then copy/paste what I want to put in the new thread. There's a number after the poster's name in that quote thingy, I'm not sure if it would work to put that as the thread number instead?

Each post is numbered (at the right side in the brown stripe above the post) If you click at that number that single post opens in a new window and you can copy and past that adres:

This give the thread that the post is on, but at least you can tell which post # to look for.
And since there are 20 posts/page, you can figure out which page you want. :-)

Interesting, trying it now, the format of http://community.istaria.com/forum/showthread.php?p=250221 positions the page with the post referenced at the top of my display window. So, use quote on the post to get the post number from the quote reference and then you can use this kind of link to bring them right to the post.

Look at Sigi's reply again, the number in the reply header bar gives the desired link with no hassle. Note, it gives the p= format you get from the quote button, but having clicked on it, you can just copy and paste the link.

It is the p=xxxxxx entry that links the post, the postcount=y just puts the thread post number in the header.

When I tried to reproduce that, I tried it with higher post counts and it just shows the whole thread.

Does not matter if I use the postcount thingy, it still gives me the whole page with the desired post positioned at the top of my view window.

Aha! Figured out my error: need to use showpost not showthread. Does not matter if you use the post count.
