ok, just managed to claw my way in-game...

...used a two weeks old cached page. I did one more thing though:

I went to internet options -> advances, scrolled down, and checked all the security auth entries (SSL ans TSL - TSL 1.0 was not active on my browser).
Don't know if that had anything to do with it...

Yes it seems the https server uses tsl protocol for authentication. That is by default disabled in windows.

As amerelium said,
To activate go in INTERNET OPTION -----> ADVANCED TAB then tick the TSL 1.0 box, then press ok and try to log in horizons again.

yes. does NOT WORK! worked ONE time only, and had the this error.

"Sorry, the game could not be started since necessary files could not be downloaded. The reason: Failed to connect to the patch server at http://patch.eu.istaria.com" or something.

We need information, not other players to fix this form them.

I have tried, cahce, offline, etc.. any other ideas?

No means to get angry with other players, if it was for me could have posted nothing since my game never stop working.
Anyway that u describe can be another problem of u only. good thing u don't get the auth error u got before anymore ;)
