Megamind: From.... where?

I saw it last night with my roommate. This morning at breakfast we concluded that it was very good. Good enough in fact that we thought there was no way they came up with this story on their own so where did it come from?

It had a Greek comedy feel to it, but neither of us know enough of them to find out what the story is emulating.

At least one of the guys (metroman) is based off of Superman. Superman came to earth from a different planet in exactly the same way, and has the same powers, and is in love with a reporter. I think Megamind is just a spoof of Superman. But a good movie in any case.
