Thread: Play on Mac

    Default Play on Mac

    Hello fellow Istarians,

I am still trying to pop in for the holidays but have not gotten a reply for the ticket I submitted so I am counting/calling on you all for help.
I am following the support for Mac players instructions seen here https://support.istaria.com/index.ph...ode=view&id=64

But I keep getting stuck. I have updated Java on my computer and tried using a more current version of the one suggested in the guide nothing works. Here is a screen shot of the error I am receiving. http://sta.sh/0xemodba9ck (its a link to my Deviant Art Stash)

If you have any suggestions please help. I would really appreciate it.
Please talk in easy to understand computer terms. I am no expert by any means.

    Thanks!

    ~ Agua

Hum... I'm not really familar with Macs.

From what I have heard from someone at work is, that there always seems to be one Java runtime on a Mac which what it was shipped and it seems to often take any commands regarding open Java things. I had to look it up myself, but maybe it's a little help

    Hey Agua!

This is a link to the latest Java version 7u45 for Mac OS X (10.7.3 version and above)
    http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/downlo...BundleId=81813

I'm not sure if that's what version you downloaded already or not but might as well give it a go. If it doesn't work we can try something else. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!

Thanks for the help Glin and Phara. Unfortunately after I installed I still got the same error. I think what the issue is perhaps is that in the mac install instructions it suggests to install "15. Download Java SE Runtime Environment(JRE) 6.37 from: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html#jre-6u37-oth-JPR"

This is the only time you download a java from those instructions perhaps that is not the right version...I tried installing the next java up from that site. Still same issue :/ Any other suggestions are completely appreciated.

As per your screen shot, you seem to have java version 1.6. Have you tried steps 15-26 with the latest version of Java.

Teneka has got it right. Those instructions link you to an old version of Java that doesn't seem to work with the launcher. I'm not sure how it's done on a mac, but if you could take a look at your installed programs list and tell us what versions of java are installed it might help show us what's going on. This is the link to the latest version of JRE the guide should provide you with: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/ja...s-1880261.html

Do you think i should download Windows 64 bit or 86?

    I would assume 64.exe

Okay installed the 64.exe. And this is what I got... it installed properly then...
    http://sta.sh/02bwsp8ktq7p

so I ran the debug log..and got this. .. http://sta.sh/0iirxobiauy

It is so strange once upon a time I had istaria working on this mac but now its giving me a ton of trouble. I also noticed that when I do install it following the instructions. #23 The option to overwrite (which usually works so the guide says) never pops up for me. After I browse and install the file I am not given the overwrite option which perhaps could be a problem. :/

So now stuck again... I am thinking of trying this youtube video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDkOmqpwOU8

I don't know much about mac's or PlayOnMac but it is definitely an issue with the launcher not finding the correct installation of Java.

As for the overwrite problem, in step 20, you are selecting the Istaria virtual drive you created back in step 8, right?

And for the 64.exe (64-bit) and 86.exe (32-bit), the 86.exe may work because the default virtual drive created by PlayOnMac is 32-bit (I think!).

I just figured this out for my Mac.

When you go to the Java site it automatically detects that you have a Mac and doesn't show an option for Windows-based Java. I had to do a search for Windows Java to find it and download it. Set up has started to move along, not sure if there's going to be any more problems, though...

(I know that this is a bit of an old thread, but it's the only one that pops up when people are trying to run PlayOnMac )

Even with that small step forward, running the game on Wine is failing miserably. I'm also trying WineBottler, Wineskin and vanilla wine interface and failing miserably because of the java requirements for Istaria.
