I'm trying to gather up some basic information about the guilds located within all the shards of Istariato display on a website to allow people toquickly and esaily find basic information on the guilds within Istaria. I'mcurrentlylooking into changing the website's theme,structure and navigation in the near future. I alsomay beadding comparison chartsfor everyone toview,to get a general overview of all the guilds in Istaria (guilds per shard, members per guild ect...). I've put in the listing for Obsidian Order. I haven't been able to get an exact date on when the guild was created, other than it was very early in the beta test.

Thanks everyone. C'gan, I received some information on Obsidian Order a few days ago from a member named Imayo which is diplayed on the website. Is the information you sent an update to that information or is this something totaly seperate? Let me know and I'll be sure to make any changes necessary. Thanks.

I've recently changed the website's theme for the following reasons:

- The pages "should" now download x2 faster then the previous
- Flash objectshave been removed
- The theme has changed to reflectmore fantasy then sci-fi

I would sign up, but I don't care much for sites that don't spam-encode email addresses.

Suggestion: spam-encode the email addresses, limit them to logins only, or link to an email form.

Thank you for the suggestion Pharcellus, and I'm glad you brought it up. I think it is only fair to the people making their email addresses open on the internet to do as you havesuggested.So, I will spam encode all the current email addresses by the end of this week, and will continue to do so afterwards for any new guilds that signup. However, at the momentI don't think I willlimit them to login only or link to an email form, although I may do something similiar at a later time.

Client-side encoding won't help unless you store the data encoded and send it to the client encoded, then decode it on the client.

Spam harvester bots work by spidering your pages (downloading the raw html files, just like browsers do), look for everything of the pattern "<user>@<domain.com>", and stick it in their database.

Your pages are static HTML, so I guess you can't do server-side encoding to accomplish the same thing. That's usually the best way, and I recommend coming up with your own unique encoding scheme; if you use a "canned" one, it most likely won't make any difference, as spam harvester bots have been designed to look for the more common obfuscation methods, and it is a constantly moving game of measure / counter-measure.

My best advice is to use an email form, as that virtually guarantees that you aren't publishing someone's email address where it can be harvested.

I have included spam encode for every current email and will do so with all future emails. I don't believe that anyone will have any problems with possible email spam abuse with the current setup.

Aye, looks pretty good. The only kind of spam harvester bot that could get around it is one that uses a browser HTML parser control embedded into an app that builds a DOM tree from the raw HTML and parses it before it would normally be sent to the render/layout engine. I don't think any of them are that sophisticated yet, as it would greatly slow down the harvesting process.

I think you've successfully hit all the low-hanging-fruit variety, though. Good job!

Always looking to add more guilds to the site (I believe there is around 25 listed so far), and of course I'm always open to suggestions for any and all possible changes.
