Dryads can't fly? ;_; Well that shoots my idea. I think I will still play as one though, a Dryad healer. Speaking of which, is healer like an advanced class of the cleric? How does that all work?

Accck, I didn't mean to make a new topic, sorry ><

I know, it's so unfair that we can't fly..[:(] They should give us a Right of Passage or something, like the dragons. Anyway, welcome to Istaria! [:)]

Yes, Healer is a Prestige school you can gain entrance to by levelling Cleric up to 20. once you level Cleric to 20 you visit a Healer trainer and join the school. You will instantly join as a level 20 Healer. This is not accumulative however. If you level Cleric to 50 and THEN decide to go Healer you will still only be a 20 Healer upon joining.

Let me add a bit to that. [;)] The advantage of taking cleric to say 50 before moving to healer is, you inherit all the masterable cleric abilities up to half that level - in this case 25 - and all cleric attributes and skills up to level 50. This is the basic idea of multiclassing in Horizons. By levelling several classes you gather for yourself a set of statistics, skills and abilities no single school would have. Multiclassing is no basic subject however, and before you start in it, know that there are good and bad combinations; ask around before you use lots of time into levelling classes that bring you little combined reward.

In terms of class differences, you'll see basically the following concepts:

    Cleric:
Great healing ability, ability to wear plate armor (highest armor for a biped), some useful combat abilities (non-damaging but useful, like an ability to slow the mobs attack speed, a shielding aura, etc). Cleric will not get very many attack abilities so they have a rather weak offense.

    Healer:
Excellent healing ability, can wear chain armor, nothing of much use in combat.

Healer is a tougher class to solo but will offer a few heal-boosting abilities that can transfer over to other classes.

The Cleric, by wearing plate armor and having access to all the heal spells (like the healer, only the cleric will have a slightly lower heal output), makes it the best tanking class in game (highest staying power). Multiclassed, the cleric is capable of dishing out damage as well, making it a very popular main class to play.

Both classes are solid choices whether they are your main class or something to assist a different main.

I agree Clerics can tank real good but when multiclassed they are limited primarily to the use of nature and spirit spells from the other classes. I mean that if you are a high lvl mage/conj/sorc/wiz you can't use the flame bombs, ice bomb, energy bomb kind of spells. You are stuck to just the Bolts (ice, energy, and flame).

I.E. I can't cast my Shining Blades from Conjurer as Cleric but I can cast Dark Cyclone from Shaman as Cleric.

Aw, clerics are tanks? I kind of figured that from watching the trailer but...>< I don't want to be a tank. Oh well, maybe I'll turn it into something...I need to go look at the class list x_X So many options.

I have two other questions, mainly about stats. Does your race influence your stats more than your class? And if you multiclass, do your stats stay the same? Is that why some choices wouldn't be idealistic(i.e. mage to warrior)?

Your stats stay the same. The increases you get for each level depend on your class, but you never lose what you've gained (except to temporary debuffs). The racial differences are so tiny as not to matter. A dryad can perform exactly the same as a half giant with the same training.

So just play whatever race looks best to you. There are distinct racial abilities, but they have little impact on game play, especially over time. That may change in the future, TG has been working on racial ability quests, but for now the differences in the races are almost purely visual (and whatever you choose to RP).

Cleric is not the primary tank. Of the base classes, that job falls to warrior. They do work adequately as secondary tanks though, and when you add other classes to your character their effect combined to cleric makes it a good tank class.

A good part of the listed classes are prestige classes. That is they need you to have 20 levels in one or more bases classes before you can join them. The base classes are cleric, druid, mage, monk, scout, spiritist and warrior. Prestiges are, for the most part, specialist directions of these base classes.

Race gives starting stats only, your class decides how many points add to them per level. When you multiclass, your stat gains from various classes are compared and the best is used.

Some class combination choices are less idealistic because of spell and weapon restricions. No caster class combines with warrior very well, as warrior is allowed to cast very few spells. Thus most abilities and skills mage gains are more or less useless to warrior. At the other end of spectrum, spiritist combines well with healer, as they are able to use all of each others' spells, and healers high focus-per-level helps spiritists landing their spells. Bloodmage is not a good secondary class to anything, as good deal of their abilities and spells do not cross over. It should be played as your primary, with other classes added to bolster against your weaknesses.

While I agree that this is how it should be, it's not the case. A cleric is a far better tank than a warrior, multiclassed or not.

Don't let my post mislead. Clerics do not have to tank and often they don't. However, they are the best suited for tanking in most situations.

Regarding stat gains, just remember this: When you switch classes, you do not suffer a decrease in any stats, you only stand to gain. For instance, if I have a level 50 class that gets 8/level in str, I will have400 str. Suppose I then take a class that gets 10/level in str. When I reach level 41, I will have 410 str and start to gain in that stat.
