    Default New Tree! (spoiler)

Warning SPOILER Warning SPOILER I had a lot of fun doing this without knowing what would result so STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW IN ADVANCE the only thing you need to know is there is a new buildable tree called Tree, Leafy Large (or Tree, Large Leafy, I'm not sure which).

Well, I heard a rumor in the Market that one could plant a Large Leafy Tree now. So off I went to my lot to consider where to put such a thing.

In the planning window, it just looked like a regular leafy tree, but people were chatting about the size of the planter. And I couldn't move it in increments, it was either in the lot's center or at the edge. I shoved it over near my plot marker, by my house, and clicked Build.

10 seconds later ... HOLY CRAP. A planter big enough to count as a king sized bed for a dragon appeared. Its sides were twice my height. I had to build pumpkins as stepping stones to get in it (thanks, Herman, for that idea). And one cannot apply without being in the planter's center.

I gathered the flax, Chioxin the dim, and Auril the cedar. I turned it all into construction units, and applied, wondering what I would get.

The thing is HUGE. Its lowest branches start about the level of my two story house's roof. It far dwarfs my lot, though I can see potential for a few of these near each other with something like a gazebo nestled in. I tested, and I am able to build a swampy tree planter very near the large tree's trunk. That will help with the undergrowth look.

Anyway, it's on my lot near Aiya's pad on Order. I think someone else built one in Aughendell. The sweet thing is, it takes the same resources as a regular leafy tree (hope that's intended!) so it is not a monster undertaking to build. If and when we get Novian salvage, I sure intend to incorporate a few of these suckers into my new design.

Kaylor, Clan Yggdrasil can put in a proper World Tree now .. *laughs*

Is there a trick to getting close enough to add resources? I put a couple of those up on my plot and could not find a way to get close enough. Running up against the outside of the thing wasn't close enough and I could not find a way to jump inside.

You have to climb up into the planter box to place the construction resources. It gets very interesting to find a way todo that. I've had to climb on top of Carmo's T5 Guildhouse, climb up a gazebo railing to hop to a wall & run along the wall to hop in, climb up jack-o-lanterns, and Winter Festival presents!

Stair-stepped jack-o-lanterns and medium or large presents help soooo much![G]

By the way Levity, I immediately caught Big Tree Envy late last night when I went to your plot to take a look at this strange thing Herman was babbling about. I then proceeded to chain our RL son, Nathaniel_Dawn, to one computer and I on Herman's to work through the night planting & growing one of those World Trees in the back of Carmo's Guildhouse. A chunk of Azure Twilight popped in this morning soon after the Tree was finished and they all caught the Big Tree Envy plague too!! So we now have several Trees in the Village Park and they are sprouting up in several other areas in Carmo. It's all your fault!!!! [;)]

I was playing around with this giant tree the other night, not knowing what exactly it was. unfortunately for me when I placed it experimentally to see what it would look like, and hit the build button, I was trapped inside of the planter with no way out! It was like I had built my own grave. Rather than recall out of it I deleted it and will play with it some more this week.

Side note: I created the tree on the edge of my plot and the planter extended well outside my plot edge. It seemed odd, potential here to interfere with plots around you maybe?

FYI, if you're on the Chaos server, you can see the big tree I built on my plot! It's on fabric isle (brist -> saritova -> ne). You can't miss the plot with that huge tree on it![:P]

The planter goes way out but you end up with a relatively narrow trunk. If you go to my lot in Aiya you will see where the tree is .. yes, half the planter went outside the lot. But I could build pumpkins that looked like they were intersecting the planter. It's as if it only can be placed in 40-meter increments but for collision purposes is a normal planter size.

Someone commented tonight that it is a bug the tree is even there. I hope not, and I hope it doesn't suddenly need a gazillion resources to grow one. I'd like more control over the placement, but otherwise would not change anything about it. Even if it is grotesquely supersized. I could see a large dwarven house, nestled in a small clump of these giants, lesser trees against their trunks as undergrowth ...

    Hey Levity,

Slip down to Carmo if you have a free moment, I think you'll see something like what you described. [;)]

I'll try to go get some pictures and get them up with links on here sometime during the night.

I think the new trees are terrific!!!! They sure helped to green up Carmo! [Y]
The only downside is now the native trees in the area look like they are almost dead of Dutch Elm disease. [:S]

    Hoo HAH! Warning! Another spoiler!

This may be obvious to you guys -- but to get inside the tree to add stuff all you have to do is PLAN a large winter festival presents and move it around like a portable ladder. Then you jump up on it and into the box!!!!

I planned a large pumkin, didnt have to build it though with the resources, was able to use it as a stepladder to get to the height I needed to be able to apply the resources. Yes, I was sort of surprised at the small amount of resources. At any rate, I put two up on my new plot in Heather, one on each side of the forge I believe. They are sort of merging with each other leaf wise, but it still looks cool, I think anyway. Heh
