    How hoard works:

You can put stuff in your hoard by dragging it onto the hoard picture at the bottom of the equipment window, or by right-clicking an inventory item and selecting hoard. You can also hoard raw coin at the rate of 10c per 1 point of hoard (not recommended). You can hoard money, scales, spells, tools, potions, weapons, jewelery, armor, trophy tokens, and special high-hoard value loot that drops from monsters (Bells, Coffers, Urns and the like)

There is no limit to the amount of hoard you can have at any one time, however you only get a passive benefit from the number of hoard increments equal to your adventure level. So if you are a level 12 adventure you can get the bonus from the first 12 hoard increments if you have enough hoard.

Each hoard increment gives you +4 armor and +1 breath of fire damage, with an "effective" cap of 25.3M

Hoard also serves two other important functions:
    1. You need to have a minimum of 250,000 hoard as one of the requirements to begin the Rite of Passage Epic Quest (RoP) to become an Adult Dragon. There is no further hoard req to become an Ancient Dragon

    2. Hoard serves as ammunition to a number of special abilities, including some of a Dragon's strongest attacks: Gold Rage (high dam/debuff melee attack), Silver Strike (solid dam minor multistrike) and Shield of Gold (dam absorbtion buff). And apon Ancient status, Primal Rebirth (dragon rez), Dragon Fear (single target 45sec mez), Flame Burst (high dam AE breath weapon), Drain Strike (note only the ancient version uses hoard)

Sorry to disturb your wonderful post, but a question about this.
I just recently made level 9 Dragon Adventurer and level 8 Dragon Crafter.
Does this mean I need level 9 hoard? Or level 17 (both added together)?
What if Crafter was higher level, does it go by highest level or just adventurer level?

Assuming level 9, (I think my hoard is just over 1000 right now), does that mean I get 9x4=36 armor bonus, and 9 fire breath damage? Neat! Just amking sure I understand this right.

Thanks for your help, wise one. This hatchling thanks you for your time.

Your Adventure level is what determines your hoard need.

My hatchling is 20/60 right now, with 30m hoard. No armour scales on and I'm over 500 armour, so I think craft levels do count.

Default Wow!!! I must really be doing something wrong!!!

right now I am at level 56 with less that 400K hoard... how does that affect my abilities and such???
I mean, does it mess with how effective I am with my attacks???

Less than 400k hoard = lvl 40 Hoard

You are lvl 56 Adv and could profit from additional Armor if you had 1.756.600 Hoard or above. As described every level of Hoard gives a bonus of +4 Armor and +1 dmg to your breath-Attacks.

    Possible Armor-Bonus: 84 [16 (Adv-level \. Hoard-level) x 4 = 84]

It doesn't affect your abilites in a direct manner. But having lower hoard- than Adv-level doesn't allow you to have high Armor-Bonus and use hoard-burning special Abilities.

But besides that ... being a Dragon has always been a matter of Hoard.

This is not true. Its highest level. I had a level 43 Adventure Dragon who was level 100 Craft and Lairshaping. I had 5.5 million hoard, which was a Level 72 hoard. I then added to it and I gained +4 Armor each time I hit the next hoard level. I ended up with enough hoard for level 87 around 13.5 million. With each hoard level my Armor went up by 4.

This was done just a few days ago.

At level 11 adventuring, Khargu already has right at 12k horde, I can't help myself, does this mean I am an over achiever?

Seriously, do I garner additional benefits from a horde larger than prescribed for my level indefinitely?

The main benefit you gain is the knowledge that if you use hoard attacks, it won't drop you down in hoard lvl. This gets harder to maintain the higher lvl you are as it's a rather nasty exponential scale. 25 mil at lvl 100 is HUGE.
