I have not sat through a normal maintainance in a bit over a year, can anyone tell me how long this process usually takes?

They ran into some issues with the client patch, and are fixing the issues now. No clue on the time.

I just came back after a year off and it seems they are experiancing many problems. Is it always like this? And if I read correctly on my login to the game page, there is a weekly update every tuesday?

The problems have decreased, just now and then, an issue will crop up, in my honest opinion. They do their best, but errors still occur. Maint is every tuesday, they let us know when there will be a publish and that does take longer.
