Thread: Harvest Festival and Unity

    Default Harvest Festival and Unity

Ok so Unity is finally here, GN have had a chance to rest (hopefully), and the players have had a chance to log in.

So now it's question time [:)]

Auctions won't start until at least the 2nd of November - considering the plan for the harvest items that can be built on plots is to only have them available to add to a plot for a short period of time (though they will remain on a plot indefinitely once built), will we still be able to add them to our plots whenever auctions are finally completed ? For clarification, I'm referring to pumpkins, scarecrows, skeletons etc that we've been building on our plots on Order.

The Harvest festival itself is a single 24 hour event, currently slated to run on the 30th of October. Will we see this same event on the EU shards the same day, or will we have to wait for long after the festive holiday period has finished before we get to see this festival in-game ?

Basically all I'm hoping is that we get to build the fun things on our plots, even if they are late, but more importantly I hope we get to enjoy the harvest festival at the right time of year, not late, otherwise people are less enthused and the spirit and festivenesss is knocked out of at least a few peoples' sails.

sadly, we'll probably have to wait...we can only hope to get it before, but since its weekend, well...I wouldnt bet too important parts of my body on having it before the holiday...

No-one's ever too old for a bit of fun, and anyhow, harvest festival isn't a US custom, there has been a harvest festival this time of year for hundreds of years [:)] Sure in Europe Halloween has become nothing more than an opportunity for big companies to sell lots of candy, but the general festiveness of such occasions should not be overcast by commercialisation.

This is an excuse to have some fun, I say bring it on !!!

PS I'm in my late twenties, at one point do I become too old to use a date of festivities as an excuse for a bit of entertainment ? [:P]

Besides why would we want to celebrate a US holiday, I would rather celebrate the really holiday at this time which is All Hallows Eve ie the night when the dead walk the earth and you are supposed to be able to speak with your dead relatives. Thats what is really happening today, halloween is just the bastardised commerical version

Exactly. Halloween has no roots whatsoever here in Europe. It doesnt mean anything, its just another opportunity to make ppl consume things they dont need.

Its a bit sad that tehy cant come up with something more originally, not so fake as Halloween. it sure is different in the States, but we are NOT from there.

So, Dev team... a bit of creativity would not go amiss.

Wishes that Horizon's broken bits could stretch as far as my front door this evening so that it doesn't load and appear to those children who will send me senseless with their continual knocking on it tonight.

My dog will be in a continual state of hyper activity as he bounces and barks around the ******** door so nooooooo I will not be encouraging them to come back knocking again next year by giving them sweeties and things this year.

    *gives up*

I play another game aside from Horizons, we've just had a week-long harvest festival and it was a complete blast, loads of events, servers packed, people enjoying the annual items that are made available (and some folks selling the previous years' harvest festival items to the various collectors), huge harvest parade, competitions, prizes, and a lot of it is player organised events too. The point is that HARVEST FESTIVAL (not Halloween, screw halloween, it's a modern invention whereas Harvest Festival is stooped in hundreds of years of tradition) can be a lot of fun in a game, if you'll just give it a chance.

If this is how the EU players react to events that can be a lot of fun, then I'll not bother trying to get excited about it. Luca, you've heard the voices of the EU players, they're not interested in these events apparently, so don't bother with the Harvest Festival.

Would've been nice, even if it was going to be a few days late.

PS I'll beenjoying everything this event has to offer, I just can't believe how some people want to sour the whole thing by being anti-american with their comments, and say that because it's an american thing, they don't want it. Well guess what ? Halloween is celebrated in more countries than just america. Not only that but the harvest festival which Halloween is derived from is celebrated in one form or another in almost every single european country.

*gives up on giving up and puts on a determined effort to enjoy everything we can get*

Halloween (all Hallows eve, call it what you want)has been celebrated in most european countries for over 2000 years in one form or another.....

Now what I want is a good 'ol fashioned Halloween event. Nothing builds the appetite like a proper witch burning...

Now, where did I put my pitchfork and thumbscrews?

In my country we have a day on november 11, known as 'Saint Maarten', which is still celebrated in parts of the country. How is that in other european countries?
In the evening children knock on the doors, with decorated (sometimes still pumpkin-)lamps, singing and asking for candy and treats.

I think here too it comes from the very old Harvest Festival (closure of it, probably).
Wouldn't it be a good idea to choose this day for óur 'harvest-event' in Istaria? Maybe things will be cleared up on the server, and the newest patchincluding that festival will have been introduced here too, nicely close before that date. It would then give it some extra 'european roots'....

    Idea? And possible?

I am game for most in game events, but to be honest it would make a great change to celebrate something of the game's history rather than real life events.

Why can't we create our own festivals? Maybe the Gnomes celebrate the day when a tiny Gnome won some war against the Half Giants by using their super dooper spear thower who poked his opponents eyes out or something similar. OK a bit David and Goliath ish but hey I feel sure you get my drift.

Maybe the Elves worship the Goddess of silk every year on the same evening with singing and dancing around a large silk plant, and wine of course. Believe me, this Elf would do something that daft purely because the feel of scratchy cotton against her skin was horrid and it was an absoloute joy to start moving into soft silk.

The ideas could be endless and could be made to be more appropriate to the fantasy world that we play in.

Wasn't there naked Gnome racing for a while? Well lets hold a yearly celebration to remember those brave and fearless souls who brought us such great entertainment by risking their lives in the great unknown wearing only their loveheart pants.

I would probably join in most things regardless of from where they are really based, but it could be a bit of fun creating our own celebrations too.

Wasnt refering to harvest event really as I refered to haloween, wich is a very late custom here, that was brought here more or less with the teenager movies (college films/movies)during the 80-90's. So a harvest event sounds fun, what it now is as i have never heard about it here. (Gothenburg Sweden). (Im not 50 yet *grins*)

yeah well haloween is like many holidays like christmas it come from many diffrent relgions even if the reasons behind it are forgoten.. even the epytions use to celebrate it but called it somethink like the feast of the dead and left stuff out side for people who had been lost. then their the european aspect of paganism, where again its sean in most of the european paganisms to be part of saying goodbye to people who were lost cuse thats when they belived and many other that the line between the living and the dead was most thin. also theirs the funny thing about santa, the aspect most people see him as was invented by a drinks company to sell their product, but gose back to diffrent religons including some nortic ones where frey was belived to ride a slead like thing and gave out presents. are holidays as is today are quite mixed cultured, yet i don't realy think it lessens then by having a little fun by putting some costume make-up on and hanging some decorations and have a laught with some mates [:)]
