    Default MMORPG advancement

there are some game mechanics of gaining ingame power

the majority of games use the lvl system, you gain xp and gain lvls and every lvl gives you more power (you gain skillpoints/abilities/stats depending on your school)

the other system is the skill advancement like in ultima online (dont know if another well known game uses it), you use a skill and then gain points in the specific skill

what system do you think would be the most fun/game experience?

its not related to hz or another game. Imagine your favourite game and what advancement system would fit you the most?

I'm waiting for free worlds to come out. Supposidly it's none of the above.

Both mechanics have thier pros and cons, so it depends on what type of game I'm playing.

Oh, don't forget time advancement like EVE.

for me, UO is by far the most fun way of doing it (skill advancement) because I can truly choose what I want to be. Not "be one of 8 different classes" but be your own (nearly) unique one, based on what you want to level up in.

Nothing more silly than a game where you hit a few things with your sword and all of a sudden are proficient at casting a fireball...

time advancement sounds strange for me, you log in and after X hours you get a lvl up?

Ryzom, but it couldn't be called well-known. In fact, it's on its second bankruptcy, and though there was an indication that it may be bought, there has been no news for months. The whole situation is tragic; Ryzom had/has many rare or unique features but a series of misfortunes and missteps dragged it to this point.

i never played Ryzom but it i heared something about it

bad that this game isnt successfull, the market would be big enough to support each MMORPG

and in Ryzom you dont had schools/classes? only skills you trained with using them?
