speaking of which, is there a program which will convert the granny files into something Maya can use (or a plugin for maya to handle such files) that doesn't cost a couple grand? i'd love to be able to yank some of the model files out of HZ and play with them, but i cant import them...

I dont know if ya can convertem but i did download the granny 3d viewer and used it to view all the models in horizons. have to add the body type then the meshs to get it to show

The only mod community I know of that has gr2 editing support with low-cost is the Medal of Honor: Passific Assault. EA released an 'MDK' that includes a gr2 importer for Milkshape3D.

I'm pretty sure that HZ granny files are not constructed the same (possibly incorrectly) it might have to do with whatever hacking they had to do to get dynamic texturing to work. I'm scared to look at what the client actually does when loading GR2 files. In any case, I never got the MOHPA's Milkshape 3D plugin to load HZ granny files.

Yeah, I found those a few days ago, too.

Interesting stuff, but I imagine that the HZ GR2s are slightly customized, as they mention a few games in that thread that they were having trouble loading because of that.

Still, it's somewhere to start.

Of course, you have to remember that the original HZ assets are in Maya or 3DSMax, and exported to GR2, so what you get won't be anywhere near what the original assets look like.

Probably a good thing, too.
