A simple solution to giving players a way of identifying silos would be to provide plot walkway tile textures with lettering and/or symbols. Placing an appropriate tile in front of a silo would give a hint of its content.

Some kind of a label whre you can write whats inside the silo
A viewable label on the side on the silo maybe?
