patents are evil...

and far surpassed their original purpose.

its possible to patent plants, and disallow indian farmers who grow this plant for food since the dawn of humanity to grow it anymore..

it is possible to patent cell structures, this way 27% of the human body has already been patented...
imagine getting an automatic billed fine from, or having to pay a license to, this pharmaceutical company just for using your own reproductive organ.. ahem

i am however more worried about biotech patents then computer tech patents.
i am not sure why, perhaps it will also turn out to be unethical to 'own' artificial intelligence, but right now the biological 'respect for live' is most clearly violated by patents.

not disallowing the torture and killing of an animal or plant for food by law (we have to eat dont we) is somthing completely different then 'owning' the fate of a whole species of animal or plant.

whats the next step?
because your dad decided to put some extra smart genes inside your embryo, you now are coporation owned and not allowed to reproduce at your own free will (spreading this gene) or worse forced to study and work in that corporation in the role they choose for you?
