Thread: Community Renewal Reccomendation

    Default Community Renewal Reccomendation

Currently, most of our communities in IStaria are slums.. abandoned, unloved. Even in communities where people are building, the smallest plots are left abandoned.

Many years ago, changes were made because there was no land available. part of this includes separate tier for land ownership. One major change as well, was the removal of seperate RCI specifications. Nowdays we have communities that are nothing more than one or two plots that build everything possible on them. and they feel just horrible in aesthetic design. Now, im not suggesting going fully back to the old "RCI" standard, but the programming still exists for it.

What I recommend is expanding ability to own land without impacting the current setup, that will also hopefully cause a beautification of communities.

First,Recommend shutting down any community that has no one in it on either chaos or order. THis will allow a focus to be on communities that are being used.

Now, those who purchase land nowdays mainly do so for access to the Lairs, industrial machines and silos. This proposal keeps this in mind

Allow the "Free Accounts" to own land. They have to "purchase" a free monthly tenant agreement in the account management each month to keep it active (it does not auto renew) This keeps someone from making an account, buying land, then stop playing. If this happens, normal community reclamation takes affect. The Free account can ONLY purchase the smallest plots, and they are zoned as Residential ONLY.

THe Basic Account can buy some of the medium sized plots, zoned as Residential/Commercial. Only 1 plot can be purchased on the entire account, no matter how many "basic" subscriptions are there.

Land Owner Account act as they do now.. YOu can get multiple plots with multiple land owner purchases.. you can buy and build any plot or lair, and have exclusive access to the full RCI plots. If you have 1 Land Owner and 1 Basic, you still only get 1 plot, you MUST purchase multiple Land Owner to have Multiple plots. As people who buy this option mostly build lairs, silos and industrial, there will be very little decrease in subscriptions due to this

This will lead to a surge of community involvement, and those with free or accounts may decide to upgrade to get better accomodation

General Rule of thumb... 40x40 will be R, 50X50 will be RC, anythign bigger is RCI

I think a better idea would be to enlarge the smaller plots. Combine 3 or 4 smaller ones into a single large plot, etc. Don't be afraid to make some unusual plot shapes. If the terrain was in the way, make a big L shaped plot. along the shores where there's a bunch of small plots now, combine them into a single large rectangular plot, like a 140x40.

Bringing back RCI might actually be a good idea:
Residential could have houses, tents, and decorative items only. no shops or silos or consigners/pawns. Vaults not sure, probably no. If some new smaller tavern structures, with multiple options could be implemented, it might be ok to have taverns on Residential. Libraries yes as well.
Commerical would be Consigners/pawns/Taverns, decorative items only. Vault yes.
Industrial would get shops, silos, connies/pawns, basically no restrictions.

Now, if this change was made, most people would want to have 1 Industrial plot to replicate the plots they have now. The Industrial plots would generally be near resource locations, and be the larger plots. Some towns could be all residential. Like Elmnic, could be a beautiful town if it was 90% residential/decorative only. On the edge near elms, could be a single Industrial for a player built woodshop.

A player with a normal paid subscription, could own 1 Industrial or commercial, as well as 1 Residential. The Residential would be basically a free plot slot, but only if you were paying for a plot. But I don't think plots should be completely free, so the free subs couldn't build the residential either. That restriction could always be revisited later.

This would give crafters more to build. More fun making decorative only plots. Ensure that some plots out there wouldn't be the ugly silo farms. And make the towns appear more populated.

I think enlarging some of the lairs would be a good idea as well. That would make it easier to plan a lair without having to worry about using every last space. I didn't use it all in my lair, preferred making a navigable one with a layout that made sense. Be nice to add to it though. Would make it easier to fit rooms in. And would give existing lairs that are "done", more to do.
