If you pre-ordered the game, you got a promotion code that you could turn in to get a decorative shoulder pet that sat on your shoulder. There were several different shoulder pets (one is a miniature cow). These are decorative and visible to other players, but provide no other benefit.

The shoulder pets are still around and if you ask you might be able to buy one for quite high prices. Since the game has been out more than a year, it is not possible to "pre-order" the game to get yourself a promotion code though.
