Sometimes I was wondering people kept using color that we could barely see, and people was telling me to format my text that was unable to read. Now I understand why .. the default use black background and the generic use a brigth white & beige background.

The background I use is the default (black). The color I like to use to make a point are yellow & orange. And when it's a extra side comment beige.

My question is "" what colors do you think work well ?"'

Okay the colors (yellow, orange, pink & burlywood) that worked real well with the default background (black) are a complete wash out on the genegic theme (white) background.

Black with white background. Can't go wrong. If you want to make a point, use the Bold, Italics, and/or Underline features.

I think the best solution is to manually set a background color (highlighting) along with the text color, so that everyone sees the same thing.

Yeah, stick to greens, brown, red, and blue and you can't go wrong. Anything too light or too dark just won't work with the contrast in themes.

    Use text decorations, not colors.

If this forum actually implemented proper BBCode, you could just use normal text decorations, and the site/user theme would render it appropriately.

Always use relative decoration, never absolute, because someone somewhere won't be able to see it.

Some forums have dozens of skins, all with different colors. It's not really good practice to use color at all. Let the forum software handle that. People choose colors according to their own tastes, not yours.

Instead use combinations of bold, italics, and underlining to draw emphasis as needed. The forum software can present those three formatting options correctly regardless of skin. It cannot do this with color selections.
