    Default The Fall of Draak (Poetry, spoilers)

    Given the subject matter, the Dragon forum seemed the place to put this, since I didn't create the story, just the fashion in which it's told. If it isn't; please move it and I apologize. ^^;

    As the title says, there are spoilers in this for the RoP/Attunement to Draak quest sets. I'm drawing mostly off of the attunement to Draak story, so if you don't want to know about it ahead of time, this is the point at which to turn around and visit another thread.

    I figured it would make sense, given the scholarly types Helian dragons are, that the tale would be recorded in some way, with a personal touch at the end.

    The style is lyrical free verse.

    ----

    The day was bright and warm,
    The sea was quiet and calm...
    The troubles of the naka-duskael,
    Then they seemed so far away.

    The island was thought hidden and safe,
    Where only the children of Drulkar could walk,
    We had yet to learn how wrong we were....

    The smallest disturbance was to be our only warning,
    Hidden within the energies of the chaos gate.
    We did not realize what it was to herald-
    The fall of Draak yet to come.

    An act of caution was then taken,
    As the gatekeeper left to investigate-
    Then into silence was the link thrown,
    As the Withered Aegis poured through to Draak.

    Dying as they fought or fled,
    Dying as they prayed,
    Our children were first to fall.

    The wind carried their lamenting cries,
    Unheard through the silenced gate,
    Still rage stirred our hearts and wings,
    And drove us on through the gate to Feladan.

    A thousand wings darkened the sky,
    Plunging the elven city into brief night;
    Yet too late were we to save them all...
    Our children and teachers lay dead or dying,
    At the feet of the invading undead.

    We raged even as it was our undoing,
    We raged as more died to rise again,
    To strike us down to join them in damnation.

    No choice was there but to flee,
    We rose to the skies to return to Feladan;
    Yet one in ten fell even then,
    Lost to the Aegis' twisted ways.

    To our homes we returned,
    Bound in sorrow for the loss;
    Praised is he that broke the gate's link,
    Yet within the fires of Char he mourns,
    Unable to forgive or accept forgiveness.

    Oh those we lost on that terrible day,
    Do your souls still remember what you were?
    Or are you forever lost to what you have become,
    Fallen far from Drulkar‘s path...

    True death will be your release,
    We shall strive to end your pain;
    It is the only peace we can offer,
    To those left behind-
    To the children we lost,
    In the fall of Draak.
