New guy question about death.

What is a death point and how does it effect you? I have two right now and I'm not sure exactly what it does. Thanks in advance.

Basically, death points are your short-term death counter. You gain one death point every time you die. Eight hours after gaining your first death point one will fade, then in eight hours next one will fade, until you have reached zero death points again. The timer runs even when you are offline, and when you log back into game you are always informed how many death points have faded while you were offline.

Until level 10 death points have no effect on you. But after that, when you die, you will gain death penalty debuff. The severity and duration of this debuff is determined by your current death points. Thus, the more you die, the longer and more severely you will suffer from it.

The death penalty always takes the form of a percentual degradation of your stats (including health) and skills. First death point is without consequence, the second starts giving you penalties.

You can get rid of death points faster by using ambrosia or food. Ambrosia is available from NPC vendors and player confectioners, it removes an entire death point. Food is available from player confectioners, and it reduces the amount of time you have to wait until a death point fades.Food eaten inside a tavern will have double effect.

Note that confectioner schools is undergoing a revamp. The foods you see now are very inefficient compared to how they will affect death point timers after revamp. Also, when foods have been completely remade, ambrosia will be removed from confectioners and NPC vendors will disappear.It will become a rare loot drop only.

edit: There are two abilities that instantly remove a death point: the healer ability Superior Resurrection (super rez for short) and ancient dragon ability Primal Rebirth.
