The Mighty Kumu at the Bat
*Note--"George" is the nickname given by Order to the Elusive Radiant Wisp*
The outlook wasn’t brilliant for the Georgeville nine that day
The score stood 0-for-Radiants with but one more hour to play
And then when Mystif died near Harro, and Rocinante did the same
A sickly silence fell upon the Order crowd in game
A straggling few logged out to go in deep despair. The rest
Clung to that hope which springs eternal in every gamer’s breast;
They thought if only Kumu could but get a whack at that—
We’d put up even money now with Kumu at the bat.
But Grymme preceded Kumu, and that dragon was a flake
For just yesterday he’d found dear George, and killed him by mistake.
So upon that stricken MarketPlace grim melancholy sat
Fearing Kumu would not log in, and get his chance at bat.
The mood grew even darker when Arch let out a cry
“There is no George in Acul!� And MarketPlace just sighed.
Maintenance was hovering, just half an hour away
And it seemed there’d be no radiants that dark and fretful day.
Then from 500 throats and more there rose a lusty yell
It rumbled through Mahagra, it rattled Aughundell
It knocked upon Chiconis, it created quite the din
For Kumu, mighty Kumu, was just now logging in.
There was ease in Kumu’s manner as he flew into the Swamp
There was pride in Kumu’s bearing as he settled in to romp.
And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his scale
The anxious crowd in MarketPlace let out a mighty yell.
And now a lonely shining wisp came wandering quite near
“You’re a total waste of spawn space!� said Kumu with a sneer.
And then a second shining wisp was spotted near the lake
“You’re not worth my time or effort!� exclaimed the mighty drake.
The Market crowd grew anxious as they watched their sundials crawl
Just five minutes, maybe less, til maintenance darkened all.
And Kumu then grew silent, and focused more and more
And now the air is shattered by the force of Kumu’s roar.
Oh! Somewhere on a favored shard the sun is shining bright
Some reaver is playing somewhere and gamers’ hearts are light
And somewhere devs are laughing and somewhere Aegis shout
But there is no joy in Georgeville—mighty Kumu has struck out.
