Nothing is working!

I've been trying every trick you guys give me, every trick I have up my sleeve, and everything in between. I just can't get Istaria to play. I get as far as the "Choose a character' screen, press play, and NOTHING! I haven't even made a character yet. I have the latest versions of DirectX and .NET updated and working, but it keeps doing the same thing over and over. It just won't play. I have .NET 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and even 4.0 installed and none of them work. I've even downloaded the newest launcher and it still doesn't work. :'(

Yes, I tried everything they told me, none of it worked.

Does the launcher screen disappear?

EDIT:
Choose a character? does that mean that it isnt giving an option to create a new character on one of the three shards?
