Problem with the 1h slash or 1h pierce for the monk idea is that they'd need the skill to that unless you mean the attacks are filtered under piercing and slash resistances.

Or perhaps change it so its not required to loot it simply, but just have it. Its a lazy fix though so its only a temporary solution.

Monks at one time were balanced or even considered overpowered (Ice Disciple getting flurry at 20) by many. While monks do hit fast the delay they get caps out while the other classes start closing...

Just as long as the named that get tiered loot aren't used in any quests though. Nothing worse than needing to complete a quest only to see a group killing the one you need each time it spawns.
