When you talk to either Bentaras (dragon reach trainer) or Wintharia (Gold Rage trainer) they echo the quest text that Gerix is supposed to give you.

This confused me because I forgot Gerix was in the game and I instructed my wife to speak to the above 2 dragons, and they gave the text that Gerix is supposed to give you, and to speak to the same dragon trainer you were standing in front of already.(this confused her as well)

We simply spoke with them again and they gave us the quest. This however is untrue with all of them, Ryklar was very rude and scolded my wife's dragon for not talking to Gerix first. (which is how it should be I guess)

I guess a few of the dialogues have slipped through the cracks and it was confusing for my wife, seeing the dragon on the roof and thinking she had to find a way up there to talk to him.... when all it took was to right click from the ground level and get his list of adventures.
