If you've deleted a group from your friends list without removing each person from that group it will do that. Basically, since you never really removed the people from the group themselves, they are still on there. It's a very old bug.
Of course, if that's not what happened then I dunno why you're getting that! :P

the group they were in still exists... they were dropped from the group.
