Thread: By playing HZ, what does a player learn?

  1. #1

Default By playing HZ, what does a player learn?

This thread is for posting lessons learned by playing Horizons. It is not to slam the developers, players, or game. It is to highlight what traits are fostered, and what perceptions are developed by playing here. Please post contrasting lessons, both positive or negative.

Below are examples of the format this thread needs to take.
Please stick to this format. Do not add comments, just your perceptions.

That plots are for storage, you really don't live there.
That you can become a master at your craft, but so can everyone else.
You can become master at ALL crafts, and really don't need others, but others will need you.
If it gets destroyed, they will rebuild it, unless it serves no purpose.

As a new dawn rises over Istaria, may we all band together to meet the challenges!

    Continuing Development of Horizons... SWEET!

It's ok to ask for help.
The fastest route to get there is not always the easiest or best.

I putter as much or little as I want, but eventually I still get where I'm going.

The first thing you do when encountering a dead body is go through the pockets for cash and items of value.

Shouldn't that read "The first thing you do after killing someone is go through the pockets for cash and items of value." ??
Elated that HZ is no longer in the hands of the Infidels.

Now.. I may have to split my time between 2 games... CS:S and HZ...

Malingering about will sometimes net you group invites to go do something you wanted to do, but just didnt want to ask others to help ya do it.

    LOL Mr. Otter

I've learned that I can't stop logging in.
I've learned that there is a lot left to learn
That you have to beat a cow with a bucketto get milk out of it.
That you have to kill animals if you can't beat it out of em.

Sand piles are roped off for safety and wells are too small to fall down.

    Trees fight back!

Small rodents dominate large blobs of flesh and get really hacked off if you kill their transportation.

Spiders throw up gang signs when they attack.

I've learned that, I never ever, want to find where the bottom half of the blights are.

That mobs fight better and are harder to kill if they have 20hps left.

I've learned that there are more good folks playing the game than I could have hoped for.

I've also learned that I'll never understand developer priorities and someone needs to take the pulse of the live team.

Last but not least. The janitor flips a switch to turn night into day and day into night.

I've learnt that Istaria has a hidden but well perfected network of irrigation to accomodate the lack of weather patterns.

And rocks fight back too! Or were they called golems?

I also have learned, that for some reason, I can undo the un-part of the undead. To make them simply dead.

I've learned that dragons are really annoying.

Anything worth doing, is worth doing 1000s of times.

You can do anything you want, but you can only learn how to do one thing at a time.

    There is no Istarian DoT.

friends are friends, whether found through virtual gaming or real life. Some make the transfer from online friends to RL friends..

ther *ARE* real people behind the characters..

    Never play on patch day.

    Lava is safer than water.

Sheep are related to Cabbage Patch Kids and silk plants, in that they areall both flora and fauna.

Nobody likes eating foods harvested from a ruxus.

The only time a dragon would win on Iron Chef is if the secret ingredient was gnome.

Gnomes are capable of inventing anything, so long as it does not have a practical purpose. They have electricity, steam power, and explosives (fireworks) - all you need to build steam trains and railcar artillery - but no, this technology must only be used for steam-powered automated muffin makers...

Istarians don't learn how to build fortifications until after they're dead. (Note to new players - all the fortified positions you see were, pre-merge, held by WA forces.)

Istaria's oceans are inhabited by massive predators of some kind, capable of destroying any ship that has yet been put to sea. That's why there are so many bridges and nobody can swim.

    What have I learned? Lots!

That people are humans behind thier avatar.

That kindness , even in a virtual world, goes a long ways.

That some folks do hide behind the anonymity of the internet, and can be very hurtful.

That personal growth surely can take place, even in a virtual world.

That deep friendships develop over time.

That the door is revolving, players leave, new ones come in, which means new friends.

    I've learned...

Never Play on Patch Day, without checking the forums first to see if things are wonky...

MMORPGs actaully do have a point, and there really is a reason to pay monthly for an RPG game

If you don't mind moving a bit slower, you really can see so much more...

Its only as good and as fruitful as the amount of effort you put into it. Its only as bad as the amount of negativity you think on it.

Be excited for new dev news, but be careful not to believe nor count on too much of what they say...

and finally..perhaps one of the greatest things I learned...

dryness face with double extra dryness face on the side (cobretti's are truly ******** fine)
