Thread: "Play Horizons" button causing IE lockup (Vista)

    Exclamation "Play Horizons" button causing IE lockup (Vista)

    After recently getting more stable gaming hours I reinstalled Horizons to play again, and last time I was successful in playing on Vista, but now when I click Play Horizons after selecting a character, the IE window locks up and nothing happens... No errors, no nothing. I've gone through the settings in the recommended page in the FAQ, such as adding it to trusted and so on, to no avail. This is not the same vista installation I had when it originally worked, since I had to reinstall after driver issues :P...

    Mailed the TS department who just say that it's a known issue, yet there are people here on the forum that play HZ so I believe it should work still.

    Any suggestions out there? >v>;

    did you follow all the suggestion in the 'consistently working under vista' thread?
    i can get into horizons by rebooting many times after doing all the things recommended in that thread.
    however, my bro snake states he can't get into horizons on his vista machine at all. but i am not sure if he has done the things recommended.

    when trying to get into it, i always get the 'horizons.exe is not working' error message. then i reboot and try again, lather rinse repeat.......
    eventually, if i am lucky, the message doesn't appear and the loading horizons screen pops up.

    that is the only way i can get into blight, at all.
    so, of course, as i have stated elsewhere ad infinitium - i urge the devs to please make the vista fix a high priority!!!

    Well yes. The thing is that IE doesn't seem to be starting the EXE at all. Someone once posted a way of launching the horizons exe with all the required parameters as a test anda workaround for the webpage, but I cannot find that anywhere on the net for some reason.

    It could be a problem with either the script or launcher, or even the patcher. If I could just get the patcher to work, it might solve the rest too. Thing is, that once I Press the button, it goes down like it's supposed to but never pops up again like the button should ... IE just freezes and has to be closed through the task manager. I even left it sitting for hours, "just in case".

    Thank you, yes. And with that the Horizons EXE executes without errors but the game wont connect; presumably because it's an old version (from the online image) and not the patched release. The next step would be to figure out how to patch this thing without usingthe website if it's at all possible.

    Still cannot figure out why IE hangs when you click the button. It has to be something with the launcher or script itself. Still investingating.
