Every advantage has its tradeoff, and for the effects of the Ritual of Everlasting Life, the tradeoff is unpredictably variable sleeping patterns.

While a Gifted individual cannot die and may at times remain awake for a great number of day/night cycles, they are prone to falling asleep suddenly. This is an extraordinarily deep sleep, referred to by some as "the void," which can be occupied by dreams so vivid the individual might believe they have actually travelled to another realm (it is as of yet impossible to prove or disprove whether their mind may indeed have somehow slipped into other realms, transferring from their body in the Prime to a different body elsewhere).

This sleep can last anywhere from a few moments to several years. Considering the latter extreme of the range of duration, the sleep of the Gifted is thought by some scholars to be more of a hibernation, albeit one that does not adhere to any apparent cycle or rhythm.

Perhaps this type of sleep is a requisite of their immortality, allowing their body to recharge and rejuvenate on the most vital levels.
