found out myself about an hour and a half ago:
    http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/03/report-gary-gyg.html

i was there at the beginning (the game, not the idea) and got him to sign my red box set at a convention once.....never thought i would be there at the end as well, ggg seemed to be one of those guys, like ed greenwood, who would have lived forever....

everyone rolls a one vs. death sometime, i guess........:*(

A sad day for the gaming world indeed.

As Velveeta said, there are some people you just never expect to hear pass away.

In Greg's world, true power of a deity is proportional to the number and loyalty of its followers... and he ascended to that level a long time ago.

As long as the fundamentals of fantasy gaming live on, so will Greg's ideas and legacy; they will continue to inspire future game creators and game players for generations to come.

Just think - it it were not for Gary Gygax and D&D, we might not be playing Horizons... or WoW or Everquest, etc.

He kickstarted the fantasy gaming genre and he has given me countless hours of enjoyment playing his game. I had the original books before there ever was a basic boxed set. Wow, that was 30 years ago...

I'm grateful that the news, although sad as it is, has not been marred by the controversy that has surrounded d&d for so many years. It's comforting to see that Gary is being remembered as a visionary, and one who has inspired others.

It has to happen to us all one day. He will be well remembered by a lot of people - which is more than can be said for many!

I was never a big D&D player, but I have always loved all the things that have come from it, been inspired by that sense of fantasy and wonder.

One may be down for the count, but the creations shall live on. *sniff*
