I dont use the news eitehr, we have an old mercury thermometer outside it tells me the temp in the shade, I assume the heat is sublimating matter without shade.

I feel your pain. It's like Dralk over here in good old California, land of No-Snow-Ever. It gets really cold in the morning, so we have to open the windows to let warmer air in. Then as soon as the windows open, everything warms up and soon the house is like a furnace. Then it takes until midnight for the house to cool down again! Our air conditioner tries its best, but it's useless.
