A Random Thought
A wind passes through the door,
Carrying on its wings a random thought;
Which tumbles to the ground in confusion,
Beginning its travel in the forest of my mind.
Nonsensical thing that it is,
It wanders 'neath the boughs of imagination.
It pauses a moment in its travel then,
Running its fingers through a stream of consciousness,
Watching it weave about stones of boredom.
It hops across the stones,
Following the stream a time,
Until it becomes a murmuring brook of musing....
Only to be swept away by a river of serious thought.

A Random Thought's Return
I pause before a random thought,
Trembling just out of reach, forgot;
Then down it tumbles through logic's stair,
Escaping to imagination's open air.
It trips and dances through reason's lane,
Escaping me through pondering's rain;
I chase it up the mountain of will,
Then watch it slip down curiosity's hill.
Slowly I close in upon its form,
Will it return, no longer forlorn-
Yet off it goes on creativity's wings,
Sweeping me along as it gleefully sings.
Exhausted I call off the chase,
Returning once more to my resting place.
And what waits to greet me at reality's door?
The random thought is lurking to play once more.

Just a couple silly poems I wrote; one is a few years old, the second was just written today.
For the former- the things that can keep a cashier amused when it's a low day at work. Sometimes just mentally chasing random thoughts is the best fun you can have.
For the latter- the joys of having a sudden idea...that just refuses to take shape no matter what you do. Then you give up and sit back to think of something else...and guess what comes back?
