Character Creation disabled? or a bug?

Zex,
Does that method allow you to create a character? That's where I'm getting stuck. Whatever's supposed to trigger a new character creation isn't... I've seen some posts that allow you to launch directly with a pre-determined character, but all the methods I've seen assume you have a character..

Thanks Zex - tried the batch file work-around...
I've now eliminated the IE 6, ActiveX, whatever portion of the app as the problem...

creating the batch file wasn't too tough. Hooray for Forum search.

However, 2 or 3 seconds later, "Horizons.exe - application error", just like every other time.

Off to uninstall and try again from scratch. It's the only thing left to try from suggestions so far.

I even tried to forward the port in the connection string through my router, but that didn't work either.

The important quote is : 0xc0000005 happens when you have DEP enabled for all programs, and Horizons.exe is not an exception. see: http://fridlekh.googlepages.com/HZ-DEP.JPG


Adding Horizons.exe to my exceptions fixed it and I'm able to get in and create characters now.

Thanks to Microsoft for re-enabling that stupid feature without my knowledge.
