Flame/Energy Attack not working for Ranged attacks

Flame Attack and Energy Attack have not been working for/on a bow/ranged attack (for me at least). I assumed these Attacks did not work for ranged attacks, until today I used Ice Attack and that did work on the bow/ranged attacks (giving Ice damage).
Should Flame and Energy Attack then not work for ranged attacks/bow too then?
Or should Ice Attack not be working?

What version of the spell were you using? What tier?

I looked at several of the Flame, Energy and Ice and they were all setup to work with Ranged attacks. They should work with regular or special ranged or melee attacks.

I was using Flame/Energy/Ice Attack V. Had equipped a Rigid Socketed Priceless Thornwood Longbow (with Radiant Lacerating Crystal in socket)
From my log (cleaned up a bit, leaving the relevant information) :

[09/16/11 01:04:09] You hit Mountain Wolf for 205 nature damage.

[09/16/11 01:04:09] You hit Mountain Wolf for 180 nature damage.

[09/16/11 01:04:58] Energy Attack V has faded.


[09/16/11 01:05:10] You cast Ice Attack V.

[09/16/11 01:05:14] You hit Mountain Wolf for 232 ice damage.

[09/16/11 01:05:15] You hit Mountain Wolf for 195 ice damage.


[09/16/11 01:06:00] Rigid Socketed Priceless Thornwood Longbow was unequipped to make room for Socketed Priceless Adamantium Long Sword

[09/16/11 01:06:08] You hit Mountain Wolf with Magic Crush for 196 ice damage.

Okay, so it just means that something on your Longbow (probably the crystal) is modifying the damage after the buff.

I'm going to guess you had Lightning Arrows on which is why you were doing nature damage originally.
Try again using the elemental attack buffs without using your Ranger/Elar damage buffs and they should work.

To see if that is/was the case, I made a simple oak bow (no techs or sockets) and repeated the procedure. The (cleaned up) log shows:

[09/16/11 03:01:14] You used Lightning Stun on Mountain Wolf.

[09/16/11 03:01:15] You hit Mountain Wolf for 162 nature damage.

[09/16/11 03:01:27] Flame Attack V has faded.

………………………..

[09/16/11 03:01:34] You cast Energy Attack V.

[09/16/11 03:01:38] You hit Mountain Wolf for 165 nature damage.

[09/16/11 03:01:46] Energy Attack V has faded.

………………………..

[09/16/11 03:01:57] You cast Ice Attack V.

[09/16/11 03:02:03] You hit Mountain Wolf for 159 ice damage.



So using another bow made no difference.
Anything else I could try?

Yes, I had Lightning Arrows on. With Flame and with Energy and with Ice Attack. Flame and Energy Attack gave nature damage, but Ice Attack gave Ice damage.
If Lightning Arrows is the cause, then why is not Ice Attack too giving nature damage?

I gave it a try without Lightning Arrows and you are right Hallucin8, that then the flame/energy/ice attacks give the right damage.
Still the question though: why does Lightning Arrows (which converts to nature damage) not affect Ice Attack?
