Looking at his/her avatar, I'm very weakly guessing that they seem to play a dragon character. So, I opened this to share my leveling pattern/tactics with him/her, and the rest of the community as some sort of tip or whatever if you're stuck.
To start off, I have 4 ancient lvl 100 characters and a lvl 44 hatchling and I can definitely say that lvls 20-40 are a pain in the tail. Yes there are lots of side quests, but I generally don't do them because they are very long and I have done them before or... I'm lazy.
What I do to level "quickly" (about 2-4 levels a day if you're half-playing the game, or up to 10 if you're very very intent) is simply do quests. Quests, quests, quests, trophies, trophies, trophies! I pick up every single possible quest I can find around me (generally only ability quests though). Some quests overlap, so try not to miss any. Then, I go out and execute them. Really, it's simple. Most ability quests give out about 1/4-1/2 of a level of exp depending on the tier. The mobs also drop trophies which you can turn in for an (tiny if lvl 20) exp bonus.
You get ability quests every 5 levels. On the 10th, 20th, 30th, ect. levels you get about 5-7 quests. Then on the 15, 25, 35, ect. you get another 2-3. Haven't really counted. At level 40 or so, those 5-7 quests will get you to and past lvl 45. Then those 45 quests will bump you up to 50.
Rinse and repeat.
That's really all I do and why I get burnt out so easily. It's repetitive if that leveling pattern is all you do. But then again, that's what I said in the title; simple.
Also when I get 'stuck' with no quests, I go out and hunt a mob a few levels higher than me or on-level with me to get there. Generally that only happens at lvl 28 or 37 or so. For 28, I go for Large Ruxus. At 37, I hunt Granite Golems with the heals of an ancient.
So that's my pattern. What's yours? ^^
