Tazoon ... what happened?

So, I remember Tazoon way back when where I trained to become a Reaver. Since returning almost a decade later, I find it's desolate yet some key quest NPC's remain. What exactly happened here? I remember it being a lag fest and crash zone, but was the solution to really just axe the town? I've used Dalimond and I like it, but it's sad when you go for your vault upgrades or dimensional pocket quests to see everything barren.

Yeah, Tazoon is pretty dead. Nice to look at, though :P
