A different logout

is it possible to create a "logout to character selection" Right now we logout to desktop and then go though logging back into the game, just to change to an alt.

I do not believe the actual game even has a character select function. The launcher is more or less a separate program that as it's name indicates just launches the game. Perhaps some command in the game might work something that tells it to switch to another character on the same account? Although this would likely be more area for serious bugs then just leaving it in it's current incarnation.

Not gonna lie, this would be so much easier than having to exit the whole game

There is an option on the launcher to not close the launcher once you hit play. So the launcher stays open until you close it yourself, making it a simple task to switch characters.

What if the game had a "Log out" button that just closes the client and also had a "Log out to character selection" button that starts the launcher the the client closes?

You are still closing one program and opening another anyway you look at it. Even if it ends up be a launcher launcher.
