Thread: ok see, here's the thing...

Default ok see, here's the thing...

What is it, that you want... really?

DB asks "What you guys want to see fixed/changed/added?"

So we all jump in and voice our views. It mostly boils down to, less lag, more events, more lore, and a host of cosmetic changes like furniture. Most want various things missing added in, and broken stuff fixed. All reasonable and fine, even expected.

    Ok see, Here's the thing...

Those things I mentioned first? They are the hard ones. They make the most difference, and can mean a much richer game in the long run. Even the missing things, take many different people to produce, from design, to art, to programming. Or talk about the broken stuff, even though you would think it would be the easiest because they already have it implemented ingame, it can often turn out to be the hardest thing to fix. This is because it takes time to track down. Time you need to design that missing form, time to do the art work for the furniture, time, you are already using to program in the next event, and figure out a way around the memory leak.

Yep, sure it's easy to say they should have done it earlier. All spilt milk now. There are no time machines. We cannot go back and change what didn't happen. All thats left is to move forwards and hope the core players don't give up before they get finished. MANY are still enjoying the game enough to login everyday to have fun with their friends. For many, that is enough for now. But it won't hold them forever.

Here's to patiently waiting to see what happens next.

As a new dawn rises over Istaria, may we all band together to meet the challenges!

    Continuing Development of Horizons... SWEET!

You have a good point Aamer and AE is prioritizing their efforts to best provide an enjoyable playing experience for ALL players. This means first fixing their Evolution Engine (performance, that number one priority back in June) and long absent content long (which should have been in at release). Oh, and communication on their Forums, like weekly Status reports in the News sections.

The player base, however, does not seem patient for someupper end content (which would come after finishing the races and classes) and instead power through the content (grinding levels in groups . . . for example, why would a Druid 37 NOW be doing the Druid 20 quest?). It is like premerge - the drive to maximize XP/effort. Worse actually, the drive to make more effective combat toons to farm for blighted items, formulas, resources (oh, and pawn brokers to buy those).

So yes, patience in ALL things but also COMMUNICATION from AE (more regular than that December 4 PR thing).

I would rather Blighted content wait for the more long-standing issues be resolved. Patience, yes, but also proritized efforts to make the game more enjoyable to ALL players.

Edit: :: looks at signature :: yes, I'm patient compared to other dragons with my levels, going slow, enjoying the path. And yes I could easily be powerleveled, but don't.

    what you speak isn't BS.

The playerbase has had already extreme patience. You are right as well that its all spilt milk. This a pay for play product, it is the paying customer that is in the drivers seat and not AE.

Remember as well it has been 12 months... 8 of those months it was extremely easy to level. Even a casual player could level to 100 in a years worth of play. So it isn't that players are impatient and grinding through the content. Its just that for the longest time there was no content. They are making great strides now but it seems to me as if they are rolling out too much to fast and breaking many things a long the way.

As mentioned the key is to prioritize. For me this means fixing the engine or replacing it. Performance of the Horizons Client is absolutely horrible when you compare it to DAOC, EQ, Shadowbane, AC AC2 and now new games WoW and EQ2. I can deal with lack of content if whats in it now is fun and not frustrating to play. Doing the memory leak reboot dance is no fun.

Remember to remain in the realm of reality when saying that we need to have patience. As far as I can see the playerbase has given oodles of it already.

I agree completely, and have had similar thoughts when some player demands that something completely cosmetic be added or else.

And I would also ask that the temptation to slow down the game further whenever new content is introduced be resisted stoutly. Very stoutly.

I agree. I think I said something like it before back on the Tazoon boards, but I'll say it again: This isn't a big company with lots of resources/people to pull from. I once heard it was around 20-30 folks down there in AZ. And yeah, I'm pretty ******** impressed with what they can crank out. :3

    Yaaaaaaaaawn,

Played EQ2 and WOW Beta last month and let me wake you guys up a bit,
Horizons will NEVER be remotely close to being as much fun , and well developed as these games.

After your first 100 levels adventurer & crafting horizons is 100% grind. You can grind multiple 100's in adventuring, and after that if you are stil here griding multiple 100's in crafting.... after that you can look at your character and ask yourself...

uhhmm what is it all for? well let me tell you... it's for nothing.. nop nada..

no end game, no elder game, no events .. no quests... no PVP, nothing!

    buh byeeeeeeee!

and no this is not to spite anyone.. this is the truth!

Sadly but true.. But something that could improve the is to get rid of GN .. As i dont see so many from the NA shard complaning around the game and why is that GN????.. Is AE simply just better to run the support and such

Indeed GN should be trashed and the european server taken over by AE, maybe that will improve the CS and the events.

Well even alot smaller companies do know how to runs server/service and such from Taiwan.. i think AE could do so from the US to whereever the servers stand in the EU.

Good Idea .. just merge both servers into one remaining server.. called LAST STAND!

ps. indeed after 1 month of tickets and waiting and PM's and whatever they added the spell to my spellbook and then IT DID NOT WORK... after that I never heared from CS again... while they repeated to please give them a reply if it worked.. GN just is totally incapable of running the game, its probably a communication problem with AE and being understaffed that is the cause. But it is sad that after 2000+ hours they could not even fix ONE ticket I put in and did not even give me a new bottlecap collection to start the quest anew.

Ok.. to get back on topic...

All that are still here after the merge, are here for a number of reasons.

Some, because they still have fun, others because of friends, unfinished goals, obligations to others, etc...

Part of what made me make this thread, is to provide perspective, but also to try and get the management of AE to realize we are still backing them.

I do have to say though, that the lack of updates lately are not making folks feel secure. Yes, DB did send out an email saying what they are working on. But perhaps a time line would be more comforting. Perhaps that is asking too much. However, if we have become spoiled to getting news and updates regularly, they can't blame us for feeling uncomfortable when that level of info suddenly dries up.

Was stated in patch notes from over 4 months ago. Took 4 months to roll it out. Awesome surprise that it ever saw the light of day, in my estimation.

    What would I like?

    Adventure content.

Not more mobs. Quests for my prestige class; randomly generated kill quests, collect quests, and arc-story quests, multipart quests. Stand alone quests that are long, tricky but reward with you with a HUGE amount of cash, or HUGE amount of exp, or a unique never-to-be-crafted item such as"ring of invisibility" (right click, lasts 5 mins, 1 hour recharge).

One off non class quests, involving the game lore, with various tasks to complete, not just kill X mobs.

Adventure areas to explore; like the blight but smaller, more intimate, such as ruins, with stuff there; a discarded scroll with a clue to a possible quest, clickable but not removeable. Areas you can advance through in a linear manner, with obstacles to overcome along the way, tunnels to walk down, with a good reason to actually go there, for example, a quest NPC, or an object that spawns a mob when clicked.

Miscellaneous content to enjoy. I mean stuff to do instead of fighting or crafting.

Event areas, game generated. not just an area full of mobs to hunt with your friends or guild. Triggered quests like the RoP, needing your guild to help but not benefitting just one class. Raid areas for guilds, with reward points for the guild to perhaps help it add to or improve it's guildhouse.

Some people are driven by numbers. That's all they see. They want exp for levels, and will grind at the easiest spot and bypass any content that might exist. These people will even burn through EQ2 or WoW JUST to reach the upper levels, because they think they have achieved something. You cannot stop that. But for those of us who want to enjoy the journey we need content.I grind only because that's all there is.

I would have liked a house, that didnt require vast amounts of time to build, and vast amounts of time grinding out craft levels to be able to build it. I would have like to be able to rent a house, before buidling my own, or maybe buy one built, from the game, or another player. I would have liked real furniture objects in it, including a trophy case, and content to allow me to get trophies to display in it. A bed which, when used, speeds up death point removal, when logged in and logged out. Or it would give a bonus to your stats for the first hour's gameplay.

Fleshed out towns. A tavern (which gives a special bonus to your stats or skills if you spend time there), casino (top prize a boars mask), market place, library, prison, shops (NPC or player owned) ambient sounds to give atmostsphere when there, npcs that actually go about there business, public premises shutting at night, guards walking about, doors!!, sewers below the bigger towns, musicians playing on a stand, you know, stuff, world content.

    In a word; content.
