Default The KNoC FAQ

This guide is not finished yet. I will continue step by step. If you have additional info and correction please post in this thread. I will add them to the post and give the credits

*******************************

1. How to acquire the prerequisites
2. What attributes / skills do KNoCs gain per level?
3. Should I use the summoned sword or should I use a crafted one?
4. Should I use the summoned shield or should I use a crafted one?
5. Which Spells are useful / can I use?
6. Can KNoCs cast resurrection?
7. Do we have an epic spell?
8. The Blade of Rending
9. What kind of Armor can I use and at what level?
10. What is the best way to tech my Jewels and Armor?
11. What should I use my Training Points for?
12. What Abilites do you get in this school? (* Spoiler * do not read if you like to be surprised what you get after levelup )
********************************

1. What Prerequisites do I need to join the KNoC school?

200 One Hand Slash (usually done by doing 20 levels Warrior)
160 Summoning (usually done by doing 20 levels of Mage)

1. How to acquire the prerequisites

It's up to you whether you like to do the levels simultaneously or one school after the other.
But I recommend to start off with the Warrior School. There are certain advantages by doing Warrior first, and this is above all the gained Health per Level.
Also you get some nice skills for melee weapons.
You will see that after you got your Warrior to 20 (or 19 if you want to save portal costs) you will do a lot of your early levels by just doing melee damage, instead of spells.
So be sure to equip yourself with a nice weapon when you level your mage.
After you meet the requirements go and see your trainer in Tazoon (located in the marketplace dome upper floor) or in Dalimond.

2. What attributes / skills do KNoCs gain per level?

One Hand Slash 10
Two Hand Slash 9
Armor Use 9
Evasion 9
Magic Defense 8
Shield10
Summoning 7

Dexterity 7
Focus5
Health20
Power 5
Strength9

3. Should I use the summoned sword or should I use a crafted one?

First, your summoned sword is for free. So you do not need to pay any silver to get yourself one. Second your sword is the mightiest onehanded weapon in game. It's damage output is very good. And it has a nice pulsating light effect. So if you like such gimmicks you shouldn't worry about a crafted sword.
BUT...
with the new techs in game and the inability to socket your sword we have to do some tests to check out how good the KNoC sword competes against a triple teched mithril sword.
The biggest drawback has always been the absence of sockets... while one can live without the additional One Hand Slash or Parry or Block, it was quite disappointing to not be able to use the WDL crystals.
As it is now, no one knows if we get better crystals.
Since I hit KNoC 100 just recently I took the chance to compare a 95 mithril sword, teched with Parry V, Power Strike V and a socket with our LVL 100 sword.
Summed up the KNoC sword does up to 20 points more damage which is almost 10-20%. It has a slightly higher delay, still? for all specials etc.. you will notice that you do much more damage. So if you take out the crystal and only leave it for Parry V and Power Strike V? the summoned sword is definitely the premier choice.
But, when fighting multiple mobs, especially lower levelled than you, it does make a difference when you can use the Pulsing Stones, the added reflected damage is higher. Sure? you never know when the effect might hit.
If you want to be on the safe side? when out fighting keep a 95 sword with a crystal with you for the occasions you might need it. All other times you will be more then fine with the KNoC sword.

4. Should I use the summonedshield or should I use a crafted one?

This is a very hot debated topic. While on the one hand our shield gives good stats, a lot of people say that a good teched shield with the right crystals beats the KNoC shield it'snot sure, how the end-result between the 100 shield and a triple teched/socketed mithril shield really is.
What the KNoC shield has got, except it's nice glowing, neon, translucent design is the bonus in ethereal armor.
Yet I miss reliable comparison at the current state.
Basically it's the same with the sword, it's for free and as I chose to join the KNoC school I would feel strange not using the two UNIQUE abilities in this school. Else i could have gone into another school.
But this is personal liking.
At the current state of the game, the biggest discussion for us KNoCs is whether our summoned sword/shield will compete with the coming techs and crafted gear. The missing sockets being the biggest drawback.

5. Which Spells are useful / can I use?

First you will have noticed, that you only get Summoning as a KNoC which leaves you with just a few Spells

FlameSpear
Ice Hammer
Flame Attack

You will have to gain a few levels before you can actually use a teched Ice Hammer II or the Flame Attack III/IV.
So the KNoC alone is not really a "Caster" type of class, if you plan on not doing other schools to back up.
But you can use a lot of other spells as a KNoC, too, if you meet the requirements in the skill.
It's up to you, if you rather be the melee type or if you want to go more on the caster side.
If you want to be able to do significant damage (not only be able to cast a spell) you will have to level a caster school, too.
Mage is first choice, since you have a broad selection of skills and spells and already have 20 levels of it. But there are other combinations people use KNoC/Wizard, KNoC/Spiritist, KNoC/Sorcerer...
Would be nice if special schools could post their impressions here, too.
Even if you only plan on going the melee way, I suggest you level your mage to at least 26 to be able to use some of the lower debuff spells, or better. At 36 Mage you master the multicast ability, which enables you to do some opening damage when soloing or in a group.
Actually I just thought about, that a 100 mage would make your KNoC leveling much much easier than the way around.
Since you can always wear the best armor right away and use all spells very nice, it would be a good help.
On the other hand at 100 KNoC you end up with 920 armor use. Which lets you wear Padded Ironsilk as long as you have a craft school with a level of 91. This makes a huge difference.

Useful spells you can cast at a rather low level of Mage are

- Numbing Haze
- Daunting Mist
- Debase
- Warped Perception
- Binding Crystals
- Stingin' Cold
- Flame Bomb (for mass killing maggots and low level mobs, ;) )

6. Can KNoCs cast resurrection?

Simply said... no.

7. Do we have an epic spell?

Kind of. Since KNoCs get points in Summoning, we are able to go for the Shining Blades Quest.
Start of by collecting the Bitter Pickle Bottle Cap Collection.
The spell itsel requires 750 in Summoning, so you will have to invest some training points insummoning in order to scribe it. This may differ if the level cap is raised, but some points in Summoning won't hurt. Since you are also able to scribe and cast Ice Hammer IV and a doubleteched Flame Spear IV with 750 summoning.
The spell effects are nicely done, but it has a big timer of 30 minutes and the spell animation won't go off each time. Damage Ã? cannot really give info, since I do not have it scribed or uses, but rumours say Dark Cyclone is better. It?s an AoE spell, though and can help in the right situation.
As for most of the spells you use as KNoC you will have to use the Perfect Spell Ability to land it. We do not have that much focus, so the chance to hit a mob with our spells is usually rather crappy :)
This is different of course, after you levelled your caster school up high.
To have the most use of Shining Blades is to use Perfect Spell -> Multicast -> Shining Blades!
(thanks to Mutrock and Metal_Head for corrections)

8. The Blade of Rending

Lady Kendra in Kion gives out a special quest if you have reached a certain level. (someone knows the exact level?)
The reward is a one-handed sword, the Blade of Rending. This weapon has no level cap, so you could equip it on a lvl 1 char. BUT it requires 300 One Hand Slash, makeing it a perfect companion for KNoCs to level up additional schools.
The "Rending Wounds" effect is neglectable at later levels, but nice at the start and it's a good weapon for the first levels of a new school.
*edit* Currently it seems that Lady Kendra is missing from Kion. So you cannot do the quest. First noticeable effect.. hehe.. people "WTB Blade of Rending" in Market and noone sells ;) *

9. What kind of armor can I use and at what level?

KNoCs can wear all kinds of armor. But remember that we only get 9 points in armor use per level. So you will have to be f.e. LVL 66 before you can wear LVL 61 armor.
At level 100 you are allowed to wear Mithril Platemail (best armor in game).

10. What is the best way to tech my Jewels and Armor?

Phew, this is a topic that will differ from person to person. According to other schools you have, whether you like to more caster orientated or tanking, etc....

I suggest you download Matecuss Crafting Calculator to design you own set of Armor/Jewels. It will show you which techs go on which part and also the needed trophies. Your crafter of choice will thank you, and I think it's not useful to do a chart here with all the possibilites to tech.

As a general guideline you have to consider which skills you receive and you should not waste any techs on skills you do not really use. So I will give some examples:

- One Hand Slash
Imho this is the option to go for whenever it is possible. OHS increases your damage output and your ability to deal out damage at all. I generally put OHS on ALL parts that can be teched with it.

- Armor
People seem to think that after gold jewels the armor bonus is neglectable, but now that tier IV/V techs are ingame this is subject to differ. I personally think that the more armor you have the less you get hit. This is even more important when you cannot cast higher tier gifts on your own.
I usually put Armor-tech on all Armor Parts that take it.

- Health
Another difficult question. I like to use Health Jewels for the extra bonus. It's usually one/two hits you can take more.. but others might think it's better to go for Dex/Str/Armor Jewels.

- Parry / Block
Since this cannot be put on any parts we use it's obsolete. But there are some pre-patch Jewels ingame, when it was possible to craft bracelets with Parry/Block. These are a nice gimmick!

- Dexterity
Dexterity is one of the biggest factors for KNoCs, since it helps our Evasion. But I personally prefer the extra health instead of the DEX. Since Smeglor's Stat post a lot of rumour how much extra-dex affects stats has been enlightened.

- Strength
I like to have a little bit of Strength on the parts that do not take One Hand Slash. Since noone really knows how Wards and other Defense techs really work out. I prefer to have some strength instead of Dex since I level my craft school which gives quite good dex bonus. As always there is no "one-way". All your schools affect the stats, but if you are plain KNoC and nothing else you might consider going for Dex instead of Strength.

11. What should I use my training points for?

Note: If you read the previous points, you might have noticed, that I am more the melee type. I prefer tanking and avoiding hits, rather than do more damage. This of course was the reason I spent my TP the way I did.
Whatever, when it comes to TP there are numerous things to consider, and many different playstyles.

You should just be awarethat if you invest the time to level up additional schools you can save the TP you would spend else in certain skills.
If you want more Ice, Flame, Mind, etc... go and level a caster
If you want Life, Augmentation, etc... go level a Healer/Cleric class
If you like to have Nature go for Druid
and so on and so on.

But there are some skills that are RATHER useful and so I strongly suggest, given you really want to play a KNoC as a class!, to invest the majority of your points into:

- Evasion
We get Evasion anyway, but each hit not taken is a lifesaver. Since you cannot spend more than 50% of your whole TP on one skill I suggest you do just that. I put 50% of my TP in evasion so far, and I feel quite safe with that.

- One Hand Slash
Of course our primary melee skill shouldn't be forgotten. It increases our damage and damage output. But since it can be powered with addtional gear and some of our abilites I don't think you should invest all of the other TP in that skill. I suggest you put a significant amount into it, but leave some points to spice up skills you need for a certain spell, etc.

- Summoning
As stated above. If you plan on going for the Shining Blades spell and don't want to level a caster so high you have to spend points to be able to use it. I did not want to wait and spend enough points in Summoning to get 750.

- Shield
I put some points into Shield, since I almost always fight one-to-one mobs. Shield is useful for that.

These are my priorized skills. I do not really like to spend points intostats like STR or DEX. And I also think that Block is not really worth it.But I might stand to be corrected.

12 .What Abilites do you get in this school? (* Spoiler * do not read if you like to be surprised what you get after levelup ;) )

nope, you're right I didn't add the Shining Blades part.

will do now.

keep posting issues. I know I left a lot of good info out for now, but I wanted to start slow and keep evolving with your help.

things missing I know already:

- crossover skills from other schools
- useful techings
- where to spend the TPs

etc... will add those in the next days/weeks

Nice job Meta.
I have a question.
I am now a 35 mage and am tired of dieing so soon.

Can I become a KNOC fairly easily, and would it be a good idea ?

All suggestions are very much appreciated.

You're half way there m8. Just take 20 levels of warrior and go to the knoc trainer in Tazoon in the dome, and et voìla!! You're a knoc [;)]

Comment: Meta, the recycle for the Shining Blades timer is 30 minutes, not 15 [:)]

Nice job there Meta ...[B]

The Blade of Rending is very helpful with additional schools - pretty much a must have ... and Shining Blades needs a lot of help from Perfect Spell and Multicast to be effective.

thanks for the feedback.
I added your comments to the Shining Blades and I added a training points section.

I would like to hear from certain KNoC combinations like KNoC / Wizard, etc. to see how they think they benefit from each other.

So maybe we can make a list which abilities carry over.

I'm a lvl 60 KnoC /lvl 60 Clerc, and upping conjurer too (lvl 27 ATM, and 20 lvl 20 also)

A a lvl 56 KnoC (56 Clerc, 20 mage) I was putting down an Emerald golem 95, thank's to Banish armor and teched rev III and Buff :p

Why I take Conjurer instead of mage to up?

Because the conjurer buff (infix fury and ice barrier, and so on) goes with my style of playing: tanking very high opponent.

In a group, I'm the one that aggro and keep the main opponent while the others kills the minions...

That's all :)

I put my TP 25% in 1HS, 25% in shield, 25% in evasion and the rest mainly in dext.

Well, I got 100 mage next to my 100 knoc. This is VERY useful since you can cast ALL spells a mage can. I basically leveled my mage to 100 so I can use the tier V bombs. They are very handy when you got a large group of mobs incomming. Next to that the mage get's 10 in armor use which enables you to use the best armor available when you got it as high as your knoc. Of course I leveled mage also for the percet spell and multicast!

Next to mage I'm leveling conjurer. Currently 63 conjurer if I'm not mistaken. I'm doing this for multicast II and for phoenix rising(another AoE spell about equalteched tier IIIflamebomb I think and it's an instant cast). Next to those 2 abilitiees you won't get to master much usefull abilities. Not even the infix fury is note worthy...it only adds +10 damage for 30 hits or so, can't remember precisely

I also got 70 cleric, and planning on leveling this to 100 once I reach 100 conjurer. I'm doing this pure for the heals. Those revitalises are lifesavers + you don't get as much downtime when you do not level cleric/healer

After 100 cleric I'll prolly take up sorcerer, unless cap raises. I'll post about sorc in combo with knoc as soon as I have taken up that class (or any other for that matter[;)])

EDIT: I'll make a list of transferable abilities as soon as I get the time to log in. Prolly won't be logging in for about a week, cause I got exams for my study [:|]

max you can master for infix fury and ice barrier is the tier II version. I can tell you already that it is useless when you reach 100 knoc. With a fully teched mithril armor you won't notice the difference between ice barrier on and off. About that infix fury, well, I guess a little damage can help then again +10 modded damage is nothing at high levels.

Extra info: I got 50% of all TP in health, the rest I don't have distributed yet, but I think I'll go for 25% dex 25% str. I wouldn't use my TP's for OHS causewhen I tech my armor with one Hand Slash V and my jewelry also my OHS will be sky high. Then again that's my preference[:)]

Very nice,

I never thought about levelling the mage prior to KNoC for the 10 points in armor use.... this is quite a good idea.

as for putting all TP in Health...

I guess this is all about whether you like ot solo more or are grouping more often. I found that I like ot hunt in groups much more than running around soloing. This is why I never bothered to level up a ´Healer Class and why I didn't spend so much points in Health.

When you group with a good Healer you do not need to bother about the additional health.

....
also i do not like it, that everyone has a healer/cleric as a backpup class.... I want to be different :))

I choose to do KnoC/Clerc in bêta, because i tought it was absurd to have a class dedicaced to a godess that can't at least heal himself.

That's an RP point, which become a life saver one, as i mainly solo.
I'm too cat to do a good job in group :p

The KNoC Sorcerer.

As with many KNoC's I have contiued to increase my magic skills as I leveled KNoC by Multi-Classing with a mage class. Unlike most I took Sorcerer.

Sorcerers get[*]9 Flame[*]9 Ice[*]10 Mind[*]Other skills that aren't really germaine to the KNoC.
Sorcerers can master[*]Blur (+40 to evasion (passive) at level 40)[*]Spellbind I and II (Mezmerize spell (level I lasts for 35 seconds with 1 15 second recycle) at level 44 for I and 88 for II)[*]Mind Defence (Group bonus to mind resistance and mind ward at 48)[*]Other stuff which isn't really important.
Why I choose Sorcerer is simple, I didn't need to be able to do more damage with my spells as I much prefer beating down my enemies with my Sword :) but what I did want was higher levels of Warped perception, debase, numing haze, sear, stinging cold, binding crystals and freeze.

And the most important reason I took sorcerer is they can use the Gladius which is a 1 hand slash weapon :)

I felt that the sorcerer combination with KNoC would be a good fit and so far I think I am right, of course that could simply be because of my playstyle.

In addition to Sorcerer I also added 25 levels of cleric for using t2 gifts/raises and some minor healing

88 KNoC/53 Sorc/25 Cleric (20 Mage) (btw I dropped warrior and lost only my xbow skill with this combination I kept mage for perfect spell[;)] )

Hey all, Mutrock here again...

I just finished my conjurer class, woohoo! 100 conjurer. I just gotta say it rocks to take up conjurer next to you knoc. You'll get to master Phoenix Rising II max and MultiCast II! The rest you master is neglectable imho.

-Phoenix Rising:An instant cast area of effect ability, it saved my butt multiple times! Really nice to have next to the normal AoE bombs [:)] 1 minute recycle though, and radius 6...little smaller than normal bombs, but hey...when you tank as knoc you're supposed to have the aggro and mobs will be touching you [:P]
-Multicast II: Need I say more? [;)]

Now taking up sorceror to complete my mission, that is...1000 in ALL magic skills! Got 1000 energy, 1000 flame, 1000 ice and 1000summoning now. (with a little TP spend to compensate for the loss of switching to prestige school[A])

I'll try to inform you people as much as possible on the sorceror thingy[:)]

hehe you show-off....

yes.. .I am still lvl 73 KNoC... it just seems to take forever to level my ADV.
and I think I might have wasted time in doing the 36 mage levels...

maybe I shold have gone for conjurer, too.

or sorcerer.... do sorcerers get multicast?
and ... how much mind / level do conjurers get?

questions over questions.

I have afew comments I would like to make.

First, Flame Spear and Ice Hammer are the only summoning spells. Flame Attack requires you to have Flame skill to use so isn't a spell that can be upgraded past tier 2 unless you multiclass the two.

And the other is about Kendra. She is still gone sinceI last looked so I think that part should be removed until she comes back.

Sorcerers do not get Mulitcast. Conjurers go up by 12 per level in Summoning.

Thanks for the input Britt.

Regarding Flame Attack:

Flame Attack III
Req. lvl 45
Flame 470 OR Summoning 450

Same goes for the other Flame Attacks. So while it's a generic Flame Spell you can scribe and use it with Summoning skill.

I hope Kendra will be introduced again... didn't notice she wasn't there anymore, but I will edit the part.
