that old guy with knowledge

Have you ever notice, there always that old guy, whos been around for ever, with all the knowledge or the world, not all the secerts, but all the storys. The dragons wouldnt nessecarly have that old guy, but they have there the dragons who been around to tell them the storys of the world.

This old guy also had certain powers, to appear where over you go, no matter how random, no matter how far you looked behind you to see if he was there. Can this person be a ghost or what?

He had no fighting abilitys, or at least showed none, but knew where to go and knew all the clues. He, no matter how much you didnt want to, ould always tell you a story about where you are, and the poit behind it.


He didnt seek riches, love, or a rare weapon, just a story. Even if it was a dead flower blowing in the wind he also found a way to mean something of it.

He dressed is old robes, used a cane to walk, altho the cane probably had some meaning ad logic behind it, it wasnt just a cane.

But no mater how graceful, thoughtfull, nice, caring as this old man was, he always wanted to turn back time so he could live his life the way he wanted to. Most importantly, he wanted REVENGE the matter how the cost [:@].

So, i ask, wouldnt it be awesome, for a random NPC (old guy), not like darkstaff, but a old warior such as us, to appear anywhere, From the pits of fire, to floating island way above the skys. When he would appear he would tell you a sotry about the place your in. Give you meaning to our world and the troubles it was once, and now is in. After this, he would ask you to explore, kill, seek, gather, something to remind him of old times. He would then gie you a clue to where some buried treasure is, or depending on the quest a rare weapon find.

This guy can be spwned right in the middle of the mith field where 20 golems are, and you have to slay your way to talk to him.

But more importantly, his wouldnt be stupid, he wuld spawn in dalinmond lets say, and only the people whos rating and lvl were in that citys range ( heres its 20 to 40) could talk to him. And get the quest you deserve, the quest would be random, and only 5 or so of that quest culd be done by indivuals, after that 5 got the quest, he wouldnt give anymore until they were finished, turned in, or expired, then dissapear only to be seen somewhere again

reminds me of another standard fantasy cliched character.
The Inn keeper.
Ever noticed that in each and every fantasy book, when the party enters a new inn, the innkeep is always behind the bar cleaning the same mug over and over with a filthy rag.
that or he is cleaning the bar, usually described as; "the stout innkeep was busy cleaning the bar with an old rag, but all he achieved was spreading the grime more evenly across the old wood"

I say YAY! for the staple fantasy cliche :)
