What's the deal with Marrow Guards?

How did this happen? Asking here 'cause my friends can't tell me how it happened either.

Out fighting Marrow Guards. I have biped gifts on, and I think even enhances still at this point. I was also wearing armor slash resistance scales so I had over 2,200 armor and 435 slash resistance. I'm going to copy-paste this fight...

How did this happen? This Marrow Guard was under the effects of Primal Vengeance, yet he proceeds to (edit by Velea) me with huge amounts of slash damage. What am I missing?

No debuffs like Rend Armor, and my friends said that Ethereal Blade should have been mostly useless due to the Primal Vengeance...

I'd like to know. These guys give Casius a hard time without Refreshing Breeze or Gold Shield, but this usually doesn't happen.

Primal Vengeance lowers the Strength of the Marrow Guard, which decreases the damage of his direct hits.

Seeping Blight is a direct hit of Blight damage, and then DoT of Slash damage.
The DoT is affected by his skill, not strength.
The damage you take from a DoT is affected by your Armor, but not by your Resistance.

Soul Anchor is a direct hit of Slash, and then a DoT of Slash. (although I thought it was Spirit)
The initial damage is low due to resistance and Primal (92 slash damage).
The DoT part is unaffected by Primal Vengeance, unaffected by your Resistance, and affected by his skill.

I'm not sure what level of Cleave he is using, but Warrior skill Cleave II at level 80 is 300% damage.

Odd... These guys give Casius a tough time, but I usually beat 'em without dipping under 1,000 life. *Unless I'm using Refreshing Breeze, in which case I win easily* However, these guys suddenly started acting super charged in the last 3 or 4 fights before I finally died.

The initial hits for Seeping Blight and Soul Anchor were low (his lower str, your resistance).
I don't think the DoT is at all affected by Ethereal Blade.
The higher DoT damage is likely coming from the caster's (Marrow Guard) skill.

I'm not sure what Enervating Morbidae is, but if this is a direct attack using Ethereal Damage, then it is completely ignoring your armor (although I believe your Slash Resistance may be coming into affect.).

Still shocked that Cleave hit for over 600 damage even though he was severely weakened.

Without the 300% increase (if he is using only Cleave II) the damage would have been only 202. With an Ethereal Blade, even with only 20% Str, this seem possible.

It's those Debuffs that you have to watch out for. I'm been killed by just blight debuffs without a regular attack or special ever landing on me. Being hit for 3000 damage by debuff is not cool man, even if you aren't in special armour. It shouldn't hit me for that much naked. (though that wasn't with the mob you were fighting. I've never fought that one before. They all use the same debuffs though)

*Nods in agreement about the debuffs* I finally took some-more out of strength and got primal up to 1000 so that I could tech Quickening Breeze V and Rejuvinating Breeze V with Cleanse III techs. If Rend Armor appears I *have* to get rid of it. If he hits me with Rend Armor THEN uses Ethereal Blade I simply get the heck out of there. *Shakes his head*

I started eating Gummy Worms, but that's going to have to stop at these guys. That massive speed reduction is a death sentence if one of 'em uses Ethereal Blade and I don't have Refreshing Breeze or Gold Shield up.

I don't know the exact affect of Ethereal Blade, but if it simply deals Ethereal damage, then Rend Armor has no noticeable affect on you for his melee attacks.

Rend will definately increase the damage from DoTs.
Agreed that all together, these different damage types and amounts add up to some serious hurt.

A debuff of Withered was on Casyle, but I'm not sure what that one does. I didn't see it in just a quick search.

I'm out there hunting alone because that's my only chance at getting the weapon pieces.

I'm serious when I say the /random in this game has a grudge against me. I've done /random close to 50 times now to try and get SoG, Valkor, or Marrow Bones loot and I've NEVER won. *Laughs*

Hm.. reading that I really miss playing my shaman... I can do some of that nasty stuff, too... that's real fun, to see a mob crippling arround in front of you with all it's skill's gone.

But it's boring to do that, if a dragon is in your group... the mob is dead waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to fast and your spelltimers still need to reload. So you'll be only able to cast one debuff or two and maybe a dot and then hurry to still do some damage.

I can't remember how many fight I won, because I casted my dots and ran arround the mob, waiting till he died (yes, my amor was real low at times). ^^
