Actually, back when castles were still being pushed actively into game, they were only going to 'castle plots', of which there were 2-3 or so. At some point however these were 'nerfed' into huge, normal plots. However, now with guild communities and all, I've no idea how the devs intend to handle castles (guild communities work exactly as they intended communities with castle plots to operate). Perhaps they'll 'release' them to normal plots large enough, perhaps they have other ideas...
